Water temps are unsually high in the area. This weekend (Canadian Thanksgiving) is normally a good weekend to pick to start trolling for the fall, but we are dealing with 55 plus temps in most basins and warm weather in the forecast.

Not a lot to report as the number of muskie anglers has been quiet the last week or so, but have some people out fishing this weekend, myself included.

Plan is to pull baits and look for lower water temps. Will check out current and hit a bunch of points in Sabaskong to start with and see what the conditions tell us to do after that.

If the action is totally dead, we may check out new areas that we've wanted to fish and never got a chance to mark out runs and get those suprise rocks along shorelines waypointed for later in the season.

Those that prefer to cast may enjoy this weekend throwing rock points (especially those with some weeds around them), current areas and reefs.

A group of 10-11 guys from various Muskies Canada chapters, myself included, fished Sab Bay from 10/2-10/8. In total the group boated 13-14 fish with a stout 47 x 23 taking big fish. Two fish were caught casting, one on a Squirko and one on a weighted Suick. A few of the guys had follows casting north facing shorelines and sandy bays. The rest of the fish were caught trolling Depth Raiders and Plows bottom bounced in water between 8-23' as well as trolling open water between 15-22' with Plows, Perchbaits, Believers, and Kraves. Color didn't seem to matter from natural perch to orange tiger.

Water temps were odd for this time of year from what I'm told. We marked 55F the first day and on the last day under flat calm conditions and over 70F air temps the water rocketed up to 63F. Algae was still floating around in areas and clarity varied from 1-3'. Weeds were still around, but starting to fade.

Water temps still in the high 50s. Have a couple of guests out casting a bit and trolling a bit. They saw some fish casting, caught a couple peanuts trolling.

Water temps got up over 60 towards 64 on Sunday in the sunny, warm, calm conditions. We were trolling and not getting in the back of shallow bays..can only imagine what the temps might have been back there. Near 70 would be my guess.

We did not see much for baitfish on the sonar either saturday or sunday. Other places that typically have it, still have it deeper than we normally see when the bite is on in the fall.

Some cool nights and cooler daytime highs will help a bit, but the start of prime-time may be a week or more away yet without a drastic change in weather forecasts and the effects on water temps.

My casting gear is out of the boat for the season. Personally, I'll be trolling til ice-up.

Water temps on the weekend of 10/16-10/17 were 54-55 most places. Personal experience giving slow action in the morning with things picking up after lunch. Moonrise seemed to trigger a couple of fish both days. Lots of smaller stuff this weekend, but a couple of nice ones as well.

Bumper boats out there with a lot of trollers covering shorelines. Prime time still yet to come. Baitfish like ciscos still in deep open water and we saw many large echos from open water when we drifted out after getting two baits hung up together. Tried some open water fishing without any luck.

Prime time still 10 degrees away!

Water temps sneaking down around 50. Action has been good this week. Multiple 4 footers landed and released.

Lake is busy this weekend with MEA, then will clear off considerably. Long range looks chilly, but if we can survive the wind and rain next week, we should have good november fishing again this year.

Still fishing up here.

Conditions should be good for a week or more yet. Hope to get out most of the next week snd find some fish. Haven't seen anothe boat angling for 3 days although we may have saw one leaving a crappie/walleye area tonight.

Water temps 43-46ish most areas.

How has the bite been for you now that the water cooled down? More fish sliding out on the breaks yet? I'll be up this weekend with my 12 yr old boy (his first trip) and Fisher but we're staying on Oak. Hoping to put together a pattern quickly and get the kid his first fish. I'll let you know if we stumble upon any patterns.

Good luck man!

Left Oak on Tuesday because of boat problems, I have caught a ton of fish up there BUT this year was the worst and I think because of water temps. The fish where not where they where in years past once again I believe because of water temps. Now the water temps are gettinig to where they rock!!!!. Try channel area's at 10to 15 depths hope they work!!! Can't tell more because I would be killed<>:"{}{. LOL Good luck and play the wind no matter how hard you think it is.

Bite has been relatively good on this end once the temps started to come down. Darren is right about the temps being perfect right now in most areas. A little tougher the last couple days for whatever reason. Rising pressure and high skies? Sun or clouds didnt seem to matter last fall, but hard to explain why normally reliable areas have been stingy the last couple days after a few days of "rest" fishing other places.

Definitely getting more action from the breaklines with outside rods tripping pretty much as often as inside rods. Have been running a rod short over the middle when 3 or 4 people in the boat and it has been getting it's share of action as well.

Baitfish are moving up towards shorelines to spawn and minnows are laying in current areas on most places.

Jakes (10's) are still the top producer, but the krave has been very hot off and on as well.

Will have a more detailed report on our website discussion board with results, interesting tidbits, and photos when I get the boat put away for the winter. It's looking like next monday could be the last day at worst...at best, might be able to get out one more time or two after that. Still have some draining and winterizing to do here and the weather is looking pretty miserable next week. Plus I'm running out of fishing partners with the start of hunting!!

The weather/water temps is the main reason we pushed off this trip until now. It seems each time I make it up that way I hit a warm spell and things tighten up. Ya its comfortable in the boat but fishing isn't always the best. That usually meant crashing lures shallow (4-5 fow) only to pick up a few peanuts or mid-low 40's at best. Plus hoping to not end up crashing on the rocks ourselves.

You're not alone Justin, I have a hard time finding partners myself for this late season fishing.

Thanks for the reports guys. All I can do is hope that the fish open up their mouths for us!

Not sure about Sabaskong, but the lake out of Warroad was froze as far as I could see this AM. The Warroad river is froze over. Sort of think Hanson's bay would be done, not sure about Mylies.

Forcast for tonight is for 3"-5" of snow.

Doug is right about Hanson Bay being frozen. Our bay was open today, but some ice in the bay to the west of us already. Won't be long now with the cold temps in the forecast.

Wouldn't bet the farm on being able to get out there Mon/Tues, but it's possible.

I gave it up Sunday night because of a couple days of chores to get the rest of the closing up stuff done. Oh I hate when I have to do that when it's perfect fishing conditions. Prefer windy, rainy, cold cold cold when I have to get my chores done so I don't wish I was out fishing instead.

Both rivers pretty solid driving up in Bergland and Big Grassy.

Ran up to the lake today to take care of a few things and saw our bay half froze over from the shore in front of the resort outwards. No way to get a boat launched in our bay and woudl expect the same for any other launches in the area.

2010 was a helluva year for all anglers in our area of LOTW. Can it get better in 2011? If the trends hold, it will do so again and again.
