ok, it's beena while since the introduction of this great and easy to fish glider. How have you guys been doing on these baits? I read a lot about following muskies and few strikes. I like this bait, effortless to work and great side to side action, easy to do a change-up as well.

Lets hear your opinions after two years of fishing with it.

Also, what's the difference with the shallow manta? I can keep my original manta about a foot or so under the surface if I don't pause. Why should I buy a shallw manta when I have a regular one? I haven't read much about those so that's why I ask. thanks

I saw a prototype BIG Manta fished in New York. The bait looked really good, and is easy to change up, too.

My opinion, for whatever it is worth:
I see most anglers tapping the bait side to side in a cadence which does not change. I can do that with an Undertaker, too, but choose to pop it up, down, and even break the surface. I have caught a number of good fish and seem to get more strikes working the bait in an erratic fashion, and find the Manta perfect for that type of retrieve.[]

I also work the Manta real erratic with lots of change ups and pauses and usually a pretty fast retrieve. Probably my number one bait in terms of total fish boated (muskie, pike, bass) in the last three years.

I fished that bait hard last year, and it was responsable for at least 20 fish. This glider can be worked faster than anything in my box. But,a fast moving glider will cause many misses. The limited stretch properties of my favorite line(flourocarbon)lets the manta glide 3ft or more.

I have had more follows than strikes and fish boated but it is a good fish locater. I have the firetiger and probably would do better with a different color pattern. Some days it is the only lure I could raise fish on. I work it very fast, dancing it side to side in short glides then a longer twitch to let it glide and that is when they hit it.

I wish they would come out with a smaller version. Those baits are pretty heavy. However, they sure are easy to work.

Great pike bait, but I'd throw anything else in my box before a Manta for muskies. Not enough roll to it. It's too "prefect" in my oppinion, even with an erratic retrieve. I gave it HOURS of watertime too.

Minnetonka pike on the other hand loved it last year. I caught my 2nd largest and many other quality pike. I even had 2 5# class largemouths fighting over it! I traded mine to GregM since by the end of the year it wasn't seeing any water time.

like muskiekid says, a smaller 6" version would be greatly appreciated. That's a good idea.
