So my brother decided that duck opening weekend was a good weekend to get married. Now I'm stuck at blue fin bay resort with no ducks to kill, and was wondering if there was any Muskie lakes close by? Or maybe the area is loaded with ducks and my 17 year stretch of hunting opening day will stay in tact. Any help you guys could offer would be great and probably keep my from killing my brother.

No muskie lakes in the area that I know of, but it sure would be tough to pass up an opportunity to charter a boat for lakers. There was recently an article about muskies in the St Louis River, but that's more down toward Duluth. http://www.twincities.com/sports/ci_16015698

If you can't make it out hunting or fishing, I can't think of anywhere better to be stuck than Bluefin Bay. Grab yourself a case of beer and go sit in the outdoor hot tub and relax.

You could head up the the Sawbill Trail and over to Crescent Lake which has Shoepack muskies in it.

There are tons of trails right by there and Bluefin runs shuttles to and from the trailheads. There are a bunch of lakes like Oberg that would make for a cool hike and fun fishing if you want to bring a rod and some light tackle.

I think Laker season closes end of Sept.
Be some local ducks in the wild rice if you can find it.
Dumbell Lk is probably closest muskie lake. Fish run small but once in a blue moon there is a decent one.

Lots and lots of grouse in that area.

I feel your pain. I once had friends get married on duck and deer opener....

Thanks for the help guys. I've decided to just stay for the ceremony and reception on Friday then head back home on saturday morning and be blasting ducks by Sunday this way I won't be the crabbiest guy in MN. Again thanks for all your help.

If you get a chance, you might find some fish runnin in the streams. On your way up, stop by Knife river...just below 61 is a fish ladder...pretty cool to see fish runnin upstream to spawn.

I would doubt you would find much for ducks on the potholes up in the forest. but I would highly suggest taking a grouse gun and at least spend some time scratchin the itch to be outside.

Crescent lake is not too far away either...just north of you a bit...I would say less than 20 minutes to get there. Small fish, but fish nonetheless. Heck..how often do you get to chase an inferior species of Muskie? some good walleye numbers in there as well, and the scenery cannot be beat!!
