| I am looking to replace a lost topwater bait. (See yesterday's post.) I am looking at Poe's Awaker and wondering how effective it is. I already have two Topraiders and don't want to buy something too similar. It looks like the Awaker would have a different profile in the water. What do the learned say, yea or nay? |

| I'd say no... I'm not a fan of any blades that are stapled in. 1st backlash and you could be buying a new bait.(did happen to me) Sometimes they shift, sometimes they just fall out.
I agree with nut on the chopper. Choppers get eaten, and can stand the abuse of casting and catching. I have 1 with 22 muskies on it I can still use.

Location: MPLS, MN | I had a back hook come out on a big Bass. IMO change the hooks and add split rings to reduce the chances of this happening. I think the fish got leverage on the hook and pin and twisted it out, less chance of this happening with a split ring added. |

Location: In a shack in the woods | I have one that barely gets thrown. I mainly use a pacemaker but recently found the mag topwalker by musky buster. It has an awesome plop and I think the bucktail hair gets lookers to eat. 2 out of the 3 fish I've seen on it have came from underneath and inhaled it. The other was hot on it for 1/2 the cast then faded away at the boat. All in 2.5 hours fishing. |

Location: Probably Minnesota that time... | You can easily fix a stapled in blade by filling the blade slot with glue or epoxy , and or drilling a small hole and adding a screw. If you like the bait, but see a weakness-fix it, yes, there is a chance you may wreck it, I think most would find this simple to do.-the fixing part, some -the wrecking part.

| The Awaker's I have must have gone to sleep.....they need to be awaken. Seriously, of all the top water prop baits, this one just doesn't seem to attract my attention. Perhaps mine are all of the vintage ones, but they just don't seem to work that well for me. With all the others out there, I'd be looking at them. I think there are better choices.
Although I don't own a Lee Chopper, I probably will have one next year. Of course, I really like the way the Tyrant Crusader runs and sounds.

| I've played with a few. The tails were soft and needed constant tuning, but that was easy due to the soft tails. And yes, rebuild all Poe's surface baits with heavier screw eyes and epoxy in the screw eye channels. |

| For better or for worse, I sprang for the Awaker. I've casted it onto practice water (any of the Three Rivers near the city of Pittsburgh) and it looks good. I'm not saying it will catch fish, but heck I can't even catch fish with a Topraider--of which, again, I have two--so what is the difference. In any event, I was looking for a slightly different profile, and this lure seems to have it. I'm sure that there are many great topwater baits, but factoring cost into the equation (remember, we have to eat) I went with this. Thanks again.

| In my opinion you would be much better off with a Pacemaker or one of the prop baits from Lee Lures, as they are tough as nails and fish extremely well. |
