Fall Trip and Turnover

I am planning a trip with a few buddies and the only weekend we have available is October 16th. We were thinking either Vermilion or the Bemidji area but I have some concerns with turnover. Any guesses if the lakes will be pre or post turnover at that time? Anyone have any advice as to which lakes we should fish?

I would think you would be OK with either choice. Vermilion does not turn over all at the same time. Some basins / bays don't turn over at all. Lots of lakes in the Bemidji area to choose from so if one is funky you can always try another.

Should be post by then, as lakes near Bemidgi were 57-58 this weekend, though this weeks warmer weather might stall things a bit.

On average, what temps do the lakes start to turn over? How long does it usually last?

Thanks

Varies with every lake, and not so noticeable on many, but generally in the neighborhood of 55. But it also depends on the wind and other factors as well. Anybody know of a good way of knowing (web site or DNR keep tabs on this?) before driving 4 hours only to find your target lake in the middle of it?
