| I have 2 a 6'10" Huges River and a 8'6 figure 8. I cracked a tip top on the 8-6 and called them. Two days later I got 5 tip tops in the mail, assorted sizes.Good deal,as one will also fit the 6-10.Also have 2 St.Croixs a 6-9 avid and a 7-6 heavy. And one All Star 7-6 heavy, which might be the best bang for the buck.I did call the bank today,as I am interested in purchasing a Diamond Back,in hopes that someday,I too will know what it feels like to be amongst the filthy rich.Sometimes I cast for 12 hrs straight,I want the lightest, strongest rod I can find.Any Ideas? How do you catch a Mermaid? | |

| Apparently you can get a mermaid on a Lamiglass rod.
FYI: I began Bass fishing back in the late 60s. Lamiglass was one the first companies (they may have been first)to produce quality graphite rods. They were quality rods and had the best rod components on them (at that time)that you could buy. A graphite rod back then was in the $150 range. Today, they produce even better rods in the same price range or less. I built several custom rods myself out of their fiberglass blanks. I still use a flyrod I built over 30 years ago. It is my favorite rod. In terms of service, I can't comment because I've never had a problem with them.
The quality of the better rods (St. Croix, Loomis, Fenwick, etc) is so good today that I no longer make my own. The real key in my opinion (other than what the components are made of)is the proper placement of the guides. The several St. Croixs that I have purchased are always positioned on the blank properly. Great stuff available these days. I personally use St. Croix rods right off the shelf. Great quality for great prices. Not cheap, but not that expensive either. I also have some custom-built rods with St. Croix blanks. Got them from a guy in Florida. They are called Gator rods. Great stuff at affordable prices. Take care - []

| I usually don't do this but, keep the #$$%%%& Lamiglass. After the runnin I've had with their service(as did R&H during the same summer), and the way they treated me, I'll never deal with them again. Just my $.02 and nothing more. | |

| Don't know about the rods, but this I do know...to catch a mermaid, you have to convince her that life on land is better than life at sea; no easy task! Plus you must be patient once you have her flipper tail removed, they walk funny for awhile 'til they adjust to their new legs. As for the gills, plastic surgery usually takes care of that. One thing I have noticed since obtaining me own mermaid 14 yrs. ago is that they never really lose the urge to wet themselves when near water; last time we were at the mall, she suddenly dove into the fountain + started chasing the gold fish, which caused quite a stir among the mall patrons; the shiny coins on the bottom of the pool are what first attracted her. If you should be fortunate enough to obtain one however, you are indeed a lucky dude!!!
***Helpful hint...in the event that she gets homesick, I have found that sliding an episode of the old series "Flipper" into the VCR calms them down real quick...that way they can talk to each other + she feels right at home. Also, keep an eye on your livewell/bait bucket if you take them fishing....[:sun:]

| In terms of customer service, I personally can't speak for anyone but St. Croix, who has been good to me. But here's my thought on Rod Selection:
St.Croix: nice deal for the $$$, never used an AVID, but I am a believer in rods/reels being an investment for hte future, and the Premier series is a great deal, alot of rod for the $$$, but the 2 year warranty scares me.
Loomis: the best in terms of weight and long time castability. Weaker in the tip than Lamiglass or Auruora, and HIGH on the price range.
Lamiglass: if you need a powerful rod that is going to lasrt and last, go with Lamiglass, if you want to save money, not a good choice. Lami's are a bit pricey also.
Aurora: the 8'er that is coming out to the market soon is without compare to whatever else is on the market right now.

| Lol Raze...ALL are worthy of a mermaid! BUT...much like an epoxied pet, extra attention is needed. I'll take 4 of the "dead President baits!
*Slamr makes an excellent point...I got an 8' Worrall rod this past yr. + the one I got will crank in a cinder block, great for BIG baits![:sun:]

| With out question, go with the Diamond back rod! I also had Thorne Bros. build me a 8 foot All Star that is just awsome! | |
