| Two of my 15 year old friends and I were just at my aunts cabin a this past weekend. Being very unexperienced musky fisherman but trying in a little 14 ft. row boat with a Johnson 10 horse a little trolling motor we were after musky. Bearly being able to cast with out ripping eachothers heads off. It was about 7:30 in the morning and we were fishing a sand bar. My friend was throwing a giant jackpot and he said a "fish is going after it" and I looked and there was a giant wake heading strait for the lure only about 15 ft from the boat and then it swurved off. Sitting there in total amazment and awe we keep casting with giant smiles. Then just a few cast later the fish went after it again really really fast but just didnt take it. We were all just in amazment. It was awesome.
What can you do to entice a musky to bite when its following a jackpot?

| hehehe, Kid. If I knew the answer to that question, I'd have gotten the skunk out of my boat the first day on the water with it.[]
I've had a lot of follows from big fish, where they are hot on a bait. I always try to keep my speed the same, if not just a little faster, when I see the fish. Always do a good figure 8, and keep at it. Sometimes those fish will hang around, and nail it after 8 or 10 8's. If the fish won't eat, come back later, and try with a different presentation.
As far as the Jackpot goes, I will defer to the Shady One. I think your answer may lie with him. Something about White Out?[;)] I know he throws them alot.
Pretty cool when you see that wake appear behind your bait, isn't it![:p]

| Kid,
Man I love when they do that! A few things I would try...
When you see the fish behind the bait... shorten the path of the glide or speed the bait up slightly. As the bait nears the boat 6' or so I will stop jerking and put my rod directly in the water while still reeling....and go directly into a figure 8. This will straighten the bait out and look as if the lure is trying to escape. If this doesn't trigger the fish my nexy cast would be in the direction the fish headed or was last. Let the bait hit the water and then count to 10...... Let them find it again...typically when you go to make your first few pulls that fish will reappear and be ready to eat. If the fish follows again I would then go with a erratic retreive... Then if still no fish... I'd smile and mark the spot in my head and return at a later time.

You now know why Poe called it "Jackpot!"
Shady gave you the tricks of the trade for fishing the "weapon."
Good luck to you and your friends...[:)]

| One thing I've tried is a toss-back lure like a Cherry Bomb or a Bulldawg.
