I have a 20' Crestliner Mirage and I am in need of a extension pole for my seat in the front of the boat.

I am tying to find an extension pole that will take my seat when I am fishing the front of the boat to a standing sit. Low profile boats have them but I cannot find a pole that goes up long enogh for me to stand and lean my rear end against the seat.

Does anyone know whee a guy can get a pole that will wok for this.

Thanks
Mike

Hiya,

I would say Cabela's should have something that could work. It may involve replacing the base for the pole to go into, but they should have a pro pedestal of some sort. The one in the link below has options to go up to 30 inches...

Thanks for the link. With the Cresliner deep V just to get to the standing platform I have to extend about 2'. Then from there to my big rear I need about another 3' o so.

I have checked all over and have not found anything. I am hoping that someone on here had the same issue and found a way to resolve it.

Thanks
Mike

They probably do not make them that long. I'm sure they are not intended to run 5' off the ground, at that point, any side pressure you put leaning on the seat will be multiplied exponentially and more than likely end up weakening or ripping out your base fairly quickly. Although, I have seen solid 12" extensions that can be added to a 30" post. I know they have the extensions anyways for the large center pin style posts.

Hi again,

After quickly searching for a picture of your boat (or something close to the year) I get what you are talking about.... I was looking at a 2007 full windshield model...

Funky way of designing a front end to a boat...

I would suggest this: Get some 3/4" marine grade plywood, some angle Aluminum, carpet to match the boat, and marine carpet glue...

Build a box to fit into the cavity, making sure to use the angle aluminum to reinforce on the underside between the top of the box and the sides, along with reinforcing the sided of the box (vertical). Carpet with the matching carpet, then install a pedestal base for a leaning post pole. Be sure with the base that you attach all the way through with bolts and washers rather than wood screws or sheet metal screws. This will guarantee the base will not rip out.

Gets you up to the level you desire, and if you attach the box to the sides somehow, a very sturdy platform with more space for your feet.. and yet removable if there is a time you do not need it.

VMS now that sounds like it might actually work. I will have to put the thinking cap on and build a box as you state. Using the angle iron would be a must so that it does not break up the box when I lean my big arse on it.

I should be able to build a frame out of angle iron and then use marine plywood to enclose the metal frame. If I can actually use my brain I can make it the exact size of the opening. There is a door that opens up to support the existing floor board so I can use that to keep the box within that area. Might end up being a little neavy but I cannot really bolt it to the boat. Due to kids and wife the front seats are needed when we just take family tours of the lakes around here!!

Thanks again for thinking outside the box for me VMS!! At least someone can think I sure in the heck did not!!!! Brain damaged as a kid I think!!!!

Thanks
Mike

Hi Again,

Not knowing the total design of the interior, so question for you to help solidify the box... Where that opening ends on the aft-side, I am assuming there is a flat surface (vertical surface) to the left and to the right of the box you would build?

If that is the case, you could probably use some sort of latch, cross bolt, etc (something like what is used to hold bathroom stalls shut from years ago) that would allow you to hold the box in place with little extra hardware.

Steve, Yes there is a flat surface on both sides that I could possible make some type of latch work to help make it more secure, I would have to to make a hole in the bottom of the box for the pole mounting plate to fit within the box. THen the box would be sitting flat on the bottom of the boat as well.

I do appreciate you thinking this out. I did some more searching on the next and called our local Crestliner salesman and Crestliner does not make a extension pole to hold my arse up!!!

SO I am going to get creative over the next couple of days and make the box. I think the latch idea would work so I will figure out how to do that as well. Then the box will be more secure and also removable for the family outings!!!

Thanks so much for all your thoughts on helping me work something out. I will have to get busy this week as I would like to have something for when we go to Leech in a couple weeks to set the new MN state Musky record!!!!!!

Thanks and if you think of anything else let me know.

Mike
