Hey guys! Just signed up her [FINALLY!]

Got a question im posting, which was also on TNB, but didnt get many replies.

I have the following reels, and looking at adding on more (because i've been in LOOOOOVE with this particular model forever)

Have:
Curado300E and Tekota600LC

Want:
Daiwa Saltist LD20

---------------------------------
reason i'm asking this is, not sure if this makes sense what i wanna do.....

Tekota w/ LC for trolling w/ a 7' heavy rod, and Curado for casting small and medium baits with 7'-9, and use the Saltist for throwing HEAVY and big lures w/ an 7'6 heavy compre rod.... the saltist is 2-speed settings, 6.3 and 3.1.... Does it even make sense to use this reel? Reason being it has NO LEVEL WIND, and it would be a casting reel, while going for musky specifically. Plus side (i guess) is, The spool is fairly narrow so i wouldnt have to thumb back/forth a lot.

Do any of you guys even use non-level wind for casting baits all day long? Let me know what you guys think about this..... I figured it would be a good reel for a FAST retrieve of baits, with the 6.3 and large spool capacity to move way more line because the spooled line diameter would be big (of course, lots of backed cheap mono)

As well, this reel would double as a sturgeon reel, use the 6.3 gear for the first portion of the fight when they get hooked and head to the surface instantly to try and shake, then buckle into 3.1 to torque them off the bottom.

Love the reel and want it, not sure if it's a wise decision to add it to my lineup, taking into account above scenario

THANKS! FISH HARD!

I had the Saltist and I took it back. Too big a and a bigger pain in the a$$ to cast. Got the Saltist levelwind. Much better but I think it's a bit cumbersome. Waiting for Shimano's high speed Curado with the big gears.

I have a 30 non levelwind, a bit big but no problems casting it, I think I would like the 20 better though.

Dumb question: why not spend a few more dollars and get a 400TE? Bought one this season, couldnt be happier for 10s (though I rarely "burn" them).

get the avet sx reel. small - powerful. great for double 10's.
run 100 lb on it as it can overwrap and break line on the cast (happened 2x with 80 lb)
it casts well and takes minimal time to get the hang of the manual reel engage lever.
do not go bigger as I think you will find it cumbersome - unless u r really strong or big.
been a great reel for me.
do a search here and u will see a few threads on this reel.

Shaley, got any pics of your setup??
The 30 is NOTICEABLY larger than the 20 (saw all three sizes in SanDiego recently)..

I hear people saying they like em, hear people saying AWFUL.

-- What is the trouble / pain in casting these reels?

i REALLY like the option of the dual speed function, like i said, when going for sturgeon as well where i'll need initial speed to keep line taut, then switching over to a heavy crank (the 3.1 gear).....
As well, the reel was comfy as hell.

It was 15oz, as much as my Tekota does, whereas the curado weighs 11.... Not that much a difference, surprisingly..
I know it's not a PALMABLE reel, and not looking for that, but what is really the size hindrance here, i held one and didnt seem OVERLY large.

Im 6' and 155, so not BIG by any means, but been throwing baitcasters my whole life (im 24 haha)

is this the new curado your talking about or is there a new one coming out.
E series is 6.2 and the EJ is 6.9 w/ a power handle.

The EJ is shimano2011, so I'm not aware of any BIGGER geared curados
