I booked a 4 day fishing trip for Sept 30 thru Oct 3rd for the wife and myself!!! We will be staying at Huddles resprt on Leach Lake!!! I got a great deal and from the sounds of a sweet cabone right on the water for what I am hoping to be a awesome get away from the kids and work and everyting in between

Now I need some help...................... With never having fished for skies before and never been on that lake as well where do I start.

1st let's here what lures you would be taking up there to use at this time of the year. I am sure that I probably do not have any of thise but I have been buying lots and lots of lures since joining this site.

Can anyone give me some ideas about where to start on the lake. I have never been on the lake before and with the size it would be really great to know some places to try and look for the fish that is going to break the state record and put my name at the top of the musky world!!!!!!!!!!!! LMAO!!!!

But seriously I could use some pointers for this lake. If you do not want to say anything on this site please PM me and lend a newbie a hand.

I am also going to pursue some other fishing as well. WOuld like to try out the bass fishing as well as some walleyes. My wife would like to try and put some wally's in the boat for supper or lunch at least one of tje days!!!

SO if anyone out there would like to help out we would be forever greatfull.

Thanks
Mike

Where to start? Lots of water to fish. I'd check on results of this weekends FS tournament to see if you can gleen any appropriate or helpful knowledge, but of course depending on weather things may change by the time you go. That time of year we've seen them on both rocks and weeds. We've seen fish in the weeds in Sucker Bay, Grand View Flats, and the cabbage in Agency Bay. In September I've seen times where just about every shoreline in Walker Bay held fish. Also hit the rocks on West Bar, Pelican Reef, Red Rocks, Mokey, and Submarine. If the weather is stable or prefrontal, fish faster with the usual small bucktails or cowgirls, and topwater in low light. If post frontal or water temps have recently dropped significantly, consider fishing slower with glide baits and jerk baits, and crankbaits or plastics. Spinner baits fished a bit deeper and slower can trigger otherwise neutral fish. Copper, brown and red have been good colors for us. Good luck and make sure you give us a report.

Propster thanks for the info. I will be reporting for sure. Hoping to hook up to a least a couple while I am there. Would be awesome to land something for the first time ever!!

Have to chase some other secies as well for the wife. She is not to thrilled about reeling in a musky bit would loe to get onto some walleyes for supper!!!!!. She is not really into fishing. She loves going out on the boat and just kicking back and enjoying a good book and nice cold beer or three!!!!

What are some lures that I should make sure I have on board. I know as of right now I really do not have any gliders. I am trying to find some used gliders desperatly as well as other lures but I am running short on cash. BUt I will continue to look on here and hopefully something will come along at the right price before too late.

Keep the info coming need as I need all the help. Also how is the night fishing on Leech. I guess that might be a dumb quqestion but had to ask. I am looking at fishing at least 14 hours everyday possible.

Thanks
Mike

You probably have enough baits already, so I'm not going to encourage you to run out and buy more! But if you don't have anything like it already, maybe pick up a softtail phantom or a hellhound. Make sure to have either a Suick, Big Daddy, or Bobbie Bait. Beyond that, a couple regular bucktails, a cowgirl or two, a bulldawg, a depth raider and jake, and a twitch bait like a shallow invader or shallow raider. And a spinner bait or two, maybe something lighter, possibly with two blades for fishing shallower, and a heavier one with a 10 blade for some big thump deeper. A Topraider or pacemake or stomper will get you by on topwaters, but maybe throw in a creeper or hawg wobbler. Make sure you've got a big net, bolt (hook) cutter, 11" needlenose (I like the bent ones) and a jawspreader. Night fishing can be great. Have a spotlight for when you're running, but best if you had gps and a map chip also, and a good headlamp. And don't forget the camera and good rain gear.
