anyone know of a different power handle than the one that comes w/ the reel?
The handle is the same diameter/distance from the shaft as the regular 2 paddled handle that comes on the reel...not sure where they think they extra power is coming from if the handles are in essence the same size only difference being a bigger handle to hold on to....
anyone know of any other options that are farther out from the shaft to gain more leverage? ie. the Penn 975s, or TE Power handles? tried the Penn 975 handle on it and it doesn't fit

Not sure of the Toro's handle length but these are the longest I have found. The Gator Grip Gripster is also the same length.

It's not the length but the larger handle that makes the difference in ease of reeling. WIth a double paddle handle you are only touching the paddles with the tips of two fingers, with the power handle you have 1/2 your thumb and 1/2 of two other fingers on the paddle.

thanks for the link Chad....the handle on the Revo's is 4".
reelman..I will disagree....i get that it's easier to hold but it gives you no more leverage if the part you hold on to isn't further out from the shaft over the regular 2 paddle handle...look at the length you can set the Penn 975 out to...it has 2 holes in the handle..one close, one farther out...same handle to hold on to but at the further out setting it does give you more "power"
same with a Trindidad....do you think that reel would be worth a crap if the handle was 2" shorter????

The extra length gives you extra leverage, no two ways about it. It's simple physics.

Brad, have you tried the handle off the Abu 7000?

I don't think the 7000 handle will fit.

The 7000 handle will not fit, the hole is too big. Another thought, the BPS Pete Maina power handle will fit and it has two settings.

YEs the longer handle will give you more leverage but it will also require you to move your arm more - something to think about. I find the increased surface area a HUGE benefit of power handles way more than a fraction of an inch more leverage.

The handle is the same diameter/distance from the shaft as the regular 2 paddled handle that comes on the reel...

I noticed that too. So I didn't put the power handle on my winch. I think some might like the ease of single handle more than the double. Who knows?

yes, I fully understand I will have to move my arm more ...but that amount to me is negligible from the standpoint I will be gaining power and leverage on hard pulling baits
there is a point at which there are diminishing returns with the handle ...I personally don't like the Penn handle on the furthest setting ...but Love the Trinidad at how far out it is...two different reels w/ different gear ratios etc etc ...that being said, the Abu "power handle" is not out far enough to be called a power handle...
to me the handle they give w/ the Winch should be called a "comfort handle" not power handle...while it is comfortable to hold it provides no more added power over the double paddle...just for reference...a Penn 975 on the close setting is 2.25" from the shaft...a Trinidad is 3"...the handles w the Revo are 2"..even that .25" gained by a handle like the Penn would be a HUGE benefit to me...imo....

Find a smaller machine shop in your area and take the power handle that came with the reel and see how much they'd charge you to move the slot and the cap screw hole. Might be able to get it done for a case of beer if you find the right guy to take care of it.

Ryan

Btw, the bigger surface area of the paddle handle AND the length of the handle affect the required torque being applied to bring in baits.

You don't need a machine shop if you have a dremel tool. I moved the slot on a 7000 and it was ridiculous how much easier it is to crank, HOWEVER the handle will no longer be counter balanced enough to stop it from engaging on the cast. I didn't move the cap screw hole, just re-used it but from the other side. Depending on how it's positioned on your particular handle you might have other options. Perhaps you could move the slot a smaller increment, tap a new cap screw hole and not have the engaging problem.

The handle/power handle on a toro is the same size as the power handle for a 55/6500 abu so in effect they come as standard with a power handle, the handles on the toro and the 55/65 size Abu's are also interchangeable

the TE 400 power handle works perfectly on the Revo Winch...i put one on it and it is just what I wanted...the Calcutta LJV power handle also works but it is quite a bit farther out and doesn't have the counter balance the TE 400 handle does...problem solved!

Brad,  did you feel the handles supplied with the Winch were making it too hard to crank in baits, or are you looking to be able to crank faster?

Thanks.

Gary, read the posts up farther on this thread....no, i don't want to reel them faster w/ the winch...just easier...
the winch "power" handle isn't really a power handle imo....the TE Power handle on it rocks....
pricey, but for the applications I use it for I like the feel of the TE handle on it way better than the stock handle(s)
