| I need some advice or ideas on rod holders. I am new to the musky scene but have jumped in with both feet. I bought a Crestliner this spring and currently have flush mount Scotty rod holders. The two holders on the drivers side will vibrate up and spin out when I'm trolling rough water. I have read where dipping them in water and putting some electrical tape on them will stop this but it has only slowed the problem.
I would like to put Down-easterns on my boat but I need to find a way of mounting them so that they are removeable 1) so they won't be in the way of the cover and 2) they aren't in the way when I'm not fishing (the wife and kids enjoy just being out on the water sometimes).
Any ideas, suggestions, links or pictures would be appreciated.

| You need to get the Pursuit Sports track system (www.pursuitsports.com - formerly Bert's Custom Tackle) and purchase the Down East Salty S-17 base (www.down-east.com/salty_s17.htm). The S-17 will bolt onto the Pursuit base that slides into and out of the track system. You can also purchase inserts for the Pursuit track system for when you are just cruising around with the family...it acts like a step on the gunnel and gives a nice finished look. I have the same system on my Crestliner for the same reasons as you...it worked out great for me. Just think about where on the gunnel you would like to mount the rod holders (don't forget about a bimini top being in the way at times) and what track length would work best for you.
Hope this helps... | |
