| I have a lowrance LCX 15CI that I am trying to get the software updated. I have been trying to download the update from the lowrance website and can not get the update to load to the unit. My question is does the update have to be put on a MMC card vs. an SD card. I have been trying to do the update from an SD card. The unit recognizes that the file is on the SD chip but it wont initiaite when you power up. Any suggestions on trouble shooting this would be awesome. |

From my limited experience with updates (as I don't update for the sake of updates unless I need them) you need to make sure the card is 100% blank before you load the update. I had an issue with my HDS last year when I had some other screwy file on there that came with the card or something and it wouldn't let it load normally. I had to wipe the card clean and reload the update. I also had an issue with my computer not loading the full update package on the card. It would load the update, but not the installer or something to that effect. (Can you tell I'm not a computer genius? LOL) The file was there, but it didn't work. Yet again, I had to go in, wipe th card and reload it all over again, making sure everything was on there and then finally it loaded. This was last year after like six beers at about 4:00 AM, so that whole fiasco is a blur. I just recently loaded the latest update for my bow HDS to allow Fish N Chips and it went well.
I've also heard that you need to install the updates in order. Meaning if you're on a software version from four years ago, and you try to load an update from this year, you need to load the updates that came before so they can load correctly. I don't know if that's 100% fact, or if that would prevent it from loading, but I have heard of guys having to go back and load a bunch of older updates to get a current one to work.
Give TJ a bit and he'll show up and get you in the right direction, and probably debunk everything I just said. But as you can see, I've had my issues with updates too, which is probably why I'm not a fan of them unless I need them. |

| Thanks, for the info. I know for a fact that there is nothing on the card when I try and download, but keep getting error message saying that there is no JRE, or runtime environment, even though I just downloaded Java from the site that it said to on the Lowrance website. I am pretty sure that I am not getting the proper installer downloaded. I am by no means a computer expert either. |

Location: Westerville, Ohio | Just had the same problem with X15mt. I could see it was on the card when you brouse mmc cards from unit, but would not load. Left card in there and have been out a few times and forgot about it. Today, like magic it loaded on start up. Only thing different was that my GPS antenna had been popping up as "GPS mudule not responding" (which was one of the reasons I was doing the update like they suggest in the troubleshooting) so I took a buddy's working antenna and plugged it in just to test and make sure it was nothing with the X15 and the update loaded with his antenna plugged in. Not sure if there was possibly something not loading because it did not sense a gps device or not but sure seemed like it. Good Luck ! |

| OK, I downloaded each of the update files to the SD card individually, put it in the unit and it still wont update. If I go and look to see if the Unit recognizes the files are on the SD card it does, just when I power up it is not automatically uploading the update? Someties when I start up the unit it does recognize the SD chip and other times it doesnt. Anyone out there have any ideas. Do I need to find an actaul MMC card or should the SD chip be ok. Getting little frustrated that its not working. |

| Try using a smaller SD/mmc card like a 256K? Some of those older units can't read cards that are too large. |
