Need some advice. I have DepthRaiders, Jakes, Grandmas, and Cranes, and a Swim Whiz. Do I need to add more to the collection?! I cast instead of troll.

If you had to pick one among these, what would it be (or list your others):

Wiley Head Shaker
Wiley Musky Killer
Wiley Musky King jointed
Wiley Musky King straight
Trinity Muskie Special
Trinity 10" Muskie Special
Believer 8" jointed
Believer 8" straight

I would pick the Believer 8" straight and my favorite crank the Little Ernie! Good luck!!!

I like to throw jtd Believers and use them subsurface so they create a wake.
If you're looking for some good cranks for casting, I like Slammers. The shallow runners are great twitchbaits and I really like the 5" deepdivers.....I just wish that I could get some more of them without having to wait til next years show season.[;)] []
Bagley DB6's and DB8's are also good lures for deep crankin'. I used to like the DB4's, but they changed them and they're not through-wire const. anymore.

Slammer Crankbaits, They come in a multitude of colors, sizes, running depth options, and they hold up to all sorts of piscetorial abuse.[]

Thanks for the replies, that's good info. Too hard to narrow it down, so I'm sure I'll need to get some of each!

Although not on your list:

Full size Ernie - Ten. Shad - I almost died when it got hung up on a crib 12' down Saturday in 3' waves - then my lure retriever broke - cluster f&*$ -wrapped the line around my club and low and behold the bait came up - thank god I still have some Ultra-Max left

Baby Depthraiders - jointed and straight

Shallow Raiders - bluegill (Rollie & Hellen's)

JoMusky,

Heh. I've had that exact same scenario on Cave Run trying to retrieve a valued Depthraider. By myself in high winds with lure retriever and deep snag; almost sawed my hand in two with PowerPro.

I'm a big fan of Depthraiders in all sizes. I have a small Slammer or two, but sounds like I'll get a large one for this trip to Hayward, and probably a Believer or two and maybe the Ernie.

The Ernie needs to be at the top of your list. The black top white belly with haloform is also a must have.

Just a heads up.....there is a 10" and a 7" Trinity on the auction block, as well as some Ukkos (HUGE sizes too) and some 10" Jakes....all good trolling baits. Check it out!

Between those I'd pick a jointed wiley's. (i dont know thie difference between the names) Now, if the believer was 10" instead of 8" (jointed of course) I woudl probobly choose that.

I recently got a slammer in a trade with my pa. It casts easilly and runs even easier. I used it for a day in between throwing heavy pull baits and loved it. Raised two nice muskies on it that day too.

Thanks, guys. It's helpful to hear reasons why you prefer certain crankbaits. Just when I thought I had enough to cover the waterfront, there's more to get. But it's good to hear under what conditions you fish your favorites since it helps narrow things down.
