Anybody ever this happen to them?
I snapped a Minn Kota Power Drive shaft in two over the weekend. Had it on high going a short distance and hit a stump. It splintered and snapped in half, just the wires holding it together now.
Can the shaft be replaced on these and if so, does anyone have any idea on the cost ?
Thank you in advance for your time. |

I had heard that they offer a "lifetime" guarantee on the shafts.
I bought this 85PD trolling motor 4 years ago ... Was the lifetime offered on these shafts as well at that time?
Any Minn Kota reps out there that would know this information for me? |

| While driving back from hayward this weekend my trolling motor somehow deployed on the highway. I saw it flip up in the rearview mirror, go down, then heard the scraping and pulled over immediately. One of the fins snapped off the prop and it was dragging on the skag of the motor. Shaft was hardly bent up. Just lucky I didn't hit a bad patch in the road and snap the shaft right in half. I was actually surprised how much the shaft could flex. BTW, mine is a powerdrive as well.
In addition to that, when the storms came through saturday night, a large (5" round) limb fell from a tree and put a big dent in the hood of my new truck.

Location: St. Germain, Wi | My terrova self deployed three weeks ago in Canada in a walleye chop. Broke the shaft. I took it to an authorized repair facility and was told the warranty does not apply. Only materials and natural causes. I asked about it self deploying and he said that was my fault. Dont have it back yet but will cost $250 to $300 bucks. They make it sound like the shaft is forever warranted but that is not the case. After four Minn kotas that will be my last. Jim |

| The shaft would be warranted against defects but not against abuse or neglagence. Your truck might have a 3 yr/36,000 warranty on it but if you run it into a tree it's not covered under warranty. I doubt these motors just self deploy, more likely they were not stowed correctly or all the way to begin with.
With any Power Drive or Terrova motor you should invest in a Ram motor mount to lock it down secure during towing and long runs. |

| Like Reelman said, I'm sure mine was not stowed all the way. Because mine is an older powerdrive and the deploy setup is junk. I always barely set the motor into to holder otherwise you have to kick it pretty darn hard to get it out. So in my case, I'm sure that's what happened. But whatever, a new prop is cheap and I could use to buy a new one anyways. Just don't have $1200 to drop on one. |

Location: St. Germain, Wi | Got my terrova back today. Minn Kota did come thru and replace the broken shaft, thank you. As it turned out the motor deployed because a nut an the bolt holding the the keeper arms came loose. Never thought to check that. Also thanks to Grizzly Bobs in Arbor Vitae, He did a great job as always. |
