| Holy crap!!!!!!!! I just released a 57 inch muskie!!! I saw the monster just sitting in the weeds and I burned a glitter tail right by her face and she came charging at it then went into the figure 8 and eight it!!!! I was all by myself and had to net it all by myself. I caught it about 70 yards away from shore right on the edge of a weed bed casting a Glitter tail # 10. Lake vermilion!! A couple people saw it from the dock so I went over and had them take pictures for me and look at the measuring stick too...because I just could not believe my eyes...57!! After drifting in I was so close to shore, so I took my socks and shoes off and hopped in to help revive her. It took kinda a while but she swam off perfectly. It was pretty fun to be in the water with her. I have to thank Spring Bay Resort, Steve, Dayis, and Joe Amundson for welcoming me here for the summer! And for letting me use one of there rental boats while mine is in the marina. Can not thank them enough!!!! Muskie Mafia! Jake Heuer

| Unreal, dude. I'm not sure you're going to be able to top this week! And as for the pictures, I think they're pretty spectacular. Heck I'd be happy with an overexposed, grainy, tail cut off, my head cut off, thumb in the viewfinder, blurry picture of a 57"... At least I would have caught it! CONGRATS! Now go out and stick a 58". |

| Hey Jake,
I want to congratulate you on your monster fish of a lifetime. The photos taken truly show the the size of your fish, the care taken to ensure the safe release of that monster says alot about you as a young muskyhunter. I dont know if you remember me, my son Mark Jassak played baseball with your older brother Dakota on the Royals in Lake Zurich. This is going back a few years. The Royals took the championship that year. You came to our house in Echo Lake for the party at the Lake's clubhouse.
I remember you had a passion for fishing at a young age, we fished together on the pier at Echo Lake during the party. You and your mom came to our house after the party and I showed you picteres of muskies I have caught. Several days later your mother contacted me and explained how facinated you were with muskies. I told her at that time my wife was having a garage sale the following week and you should stop by. You and your mom and dad came by and I gave you my first muskie rod and reel combo which was a berkley series one with a ambassadeur 5000 reel along with about a dozen muskie baits. In thanks you drew a beautiful poster picture of a musky breaking water, which you and your mom brought over to me. Still have the picture.!!!! I'm not sure if you still live around Lake Zurich, if you do please look us up. We are still in Echo Lake on Hillcrest Drive. So happy to see you have a passion for musky fishing.......
Congrats again on your MONSTER!!!!!

to SEE that thing coming into the 8, not freak out.... execute an 8 good enough to get that fish to eat, and hook it! WOW!! THEN, to actually manage not losing it, and THEN net all 57" of musky on your OWN.... that's just amazing. I think your pictures turned out very well. The release shots do show how big it is, but I think they ALL show how big it is. I actually like the one where you are holding it out of the water in the boat. Look how much tail flop there is behind your hand!
Very, very, very good job. What an amazing fish. Congrats to you.

I did my biggest fish (55") when I was about your age and have been trying to top it for over 20yrs.......I'm still at it and it's what gives me the drive to get out there on the worst days and fish. You'll remember that day and the smallest details of it for the rest of your life. Congradulations 100 times over.

| The definition of the word epic is as follows:
"noting or pertaining to a long poetic composition, usually centered upon a hero, in which a series of great achievements or events is narrated in elevated style:"
Although not a poem, the first word that came to mind after reading your story was epic.
Dang dude...not much I can say that hasn't been said, truly a fantastic fish. One of the other cool things about this post is that not one person has been a jacka** to you like what typically happens when a monster gets posted!

I second that Marty, well said!
Take note you naysayers who think that musky fishermen are jealous or too quick to question some of these other fish with questionable pictures and measurements. Heck, not one negative post or even anything remotely questioning the length because it was actually 57". I find it nothing short of amusing when people say they would not put a photograph of a 60" (or whatever) because people would just rip on them and cut down their achievement. LOL, it's only if it deserves questioning!
Congratulations to the angler and his remarkable solo achievement at any age! |

Location: Medford, WI | Thank you for the story and pics! It's truly amazing to see something like this. As someone who fishes by myself quite a bit, I congratulate you on getting this pig in the bet by yourself; especially after a hit so close to the boat.
There's absolutely nothing I would change in the pics...as mentioned above, the shot of you in the water with her truly shows how big she is. If you've ever seen pics of a mid-40's in the water with a person, they make the fish look tiny.
Congrats again, and don't stop looking to top it, I know you won't!

| Jake; Great job and congrats!!! Unbelievable fish!!! You also, by the looks of the fish, took care of her release.
Wonder how old this monster was? Did you take a scale sample? I would think a fish this big would be at the end of its life cycle soon.
Be interested to see how many boats are lined up to fish the area you released her.
Lake association will have to put up a sign...heavy undertoe...from all the Dbl 10's and Dbl 12's thrown in that area the next 3 months...LOL!!! |

I saw a couple of fish like that last week up there on the rocks. The fish are definitely there. Next time I might have to get a glitter bait. |

| Its a shame if you don't get a care package from Glittertails!!
I believe you just doubled (or more) thier sales for the year.
Congrats on the MONSTER |

| Congrats Jake. Sounds like you had a week you will never forget and a week 99.9% of us only dream of. It is also nice to see how education and promotion of catch and release from years back is now second nature for the new generation of young fisherman.
Way to go Jake,

Your an excellent example for everyone who targets musky. Fish hard, release them all and enjoy the rewards of it. |
