I fish the north channel of Huron every few years. I want to buy a chip for my Lowrance 27c HD. I talked with a guide who is from my home area but puts a lot of time in on the North Chanel and he pointed me toward the chip he uses and really likes. Unfortunately, this one is no longer made. The one that looks to have taken its place is the Fish 'N Chips great lakes. Has anyone used this chip in this area (or even another area)? Does it have the detail to fish with as well as navigate by? It is a little expensive for me to drop almost $200 on for a trip every 3 years or so and I don't want to drop the coin and be disappointed in the detail.

I've got the G Fish N Chips (Great Lakes) and it's not bad. First of all, it is NOT for navigation. There's no bouys, channels, markers, etc, listed on it. It's got some wrecks shown, but it is all about contours and detail. And for LSC at least, they put do it in 1' contours, and I honestly think they just imagined what "might" be there and put it on the chip. LSC is largely devoid of structure and feature, but according to the chip, it looks like a shield lake with all kinds of cool bars and humps....uh yeah...not there....and verified by sonar by me! If the area your fishing has had a proper survey and is actually mapped to 1' contours, it'd be an awesome chip. I use it in my bow unit, but would not like it on the console, navving a channel at night looking for bouys....

If you're gonna do one chip, I'd look at the Platinum+ Alot of good detail, and all the other stuff you need to get around big water...nav aids, gas, boat ramps, points of interest, photo overlay, etc.
