| I JUST GOT A HDS 8 FOR THE WHEEL, HAVE A 520C UP FRONT WITH POWER AND SONAR. LOOKING TO GET A 4000 PUCK AND USE THE PUCK FOR BOTH UNITS. I UNDERSTAND YOU NEED NMEA 2000 NETWORKING TO USE THE PUCK FOR BOTH UNITS, WHAT I DONT UNDERSTAND IS IF YOU NEED TO POWER THE PUCK SEPERATELY, OR THE PUCK WILL BE POWERED WHEN YOU POWER THE NETWORK????
ONE OTHER THING, DO I NEED A ETHERNET CABLE, OR IS THAT JUST NEEDED TO TRANSFER WAYPOINTS????
IS THE ETHERNET JUST FOR HDS UNITS COMMUNICATING TOGETHER?????

With the HDS units, the power is already being given to the unit, so once you have power to the unit, you will have power to the puck. This is a new feature to the HDS units, unlike how things worked with the LCX units.
You will need the NMEA starter kit. This will have everything you need, then add the LGC-4000 puck. No, the Ethernet can be used with HDS and LCX units, the only thing the Ethernet cable will do is share transducer information from one unit to another. It will not share Structure Scan on a LCX or LMS units however.

| FROM WHAT I READ, THE ETHERNET CABLE IS ONLY FOR THE SONAR/DUCER, NOT THE PUCK SIGNAL. THE NMEA NETWORK SHARES THE SIGNAL WITH THE PUCK. AS LONG AS YOU HAVE THE UPDATES ON BOTH UNITS, THE NEMA WILL TRANSFER WAYPOINTS FROM UNIT TO UNIT. LOOKS LIKE A $300 UPGRADE....

The Ethernet only shares transducer info and waypoints. Structure Scan cannot be read on LCX or LMX models, only HDS units.
