I have a 80lb PD minnkota unit that locks into place when lowered into the water about half the time. If I don't check it and it isn't locked then it comes out of the water. The time it isn't locking down I can pull up on the release handle and it will lock. The only thing that I changed on the unit was tightening the mounting bolts before a trip to Canada. Has anyone ever had this isssue? I did a search on the site and couldn't find a similar issue but I thought I had read about this issue. Any thoughts or ideas would be appreciated.

Hello!!

As you look at the motor from inside the bow of the boat, remove the right side plate... There should be a spring attached to the lever system that can come undone due to losing a retaining ring. Not sure if this is the issue, but it is something easy to check and fix...

Same problem, with the same trolling motor. Fix, take off side plate and connect the spring in it's proper place. BG
