Location: Hartford, Iowa | Planning a trip to Mille lacs in late september and was wondering what part of the lake would be the best. Will be staying at the Red Door. So I was wondering if the north end would be better or not that time of year, also day or night in late sept. | |

Location: Maple Grove, MN | That is a big "who knows?". So much of that will depend on the weather that day. If there is a nice chop on the north end of the lake, then fishing might be good right in front of the Red Door. If there are 5 ft rollers, then you better head to the other side of the lake where the water is calmer.
The last couple of years have not been good on Mille Lacs and no one knows for sure how this year will turn out. So far, it seems to be a mixed bag with some people having success while many others are seeing no action at all.
I would think that you are at a good place to start with. If the fish aren't there or the weather doesn't allow you to fish there, you can always trailer down to another part of the lake. At that time of the year, the fish can be in the weeds, rocks, or both so you may have to search a little too.
Good luck. | |
