| There's a guy in my neck of the woods who runs "Donnie's Reel Repair" out of his house. Last spring he completely disassembled all my baitcasters, cleaned, lubed and reassembled them for like $3.00 each. Yesterday I picked up a battered Quantum E500 baitcaster I had dropped off with him for repair. Parts and labor came to.....
are you ready......
$2.65
He refused a tip but I wrote the check for $10 anyway. He says he'll use the extra as credit toward my next repair because "I don't need tips, I've got a job and I only do this as a hobby."
Is that amazing or what?

| He's in the Michigan UP, just east of Iron Mountain, in a little burg called Vulcan.

He's been at it a long time, and I think he has a lot of customers from all over, including overseas.

| Dude!!!!
Now we are talking!
I have lots of old 6500c3's that my old guide clients destroyed, but the cost of repairing them is $35 + parts elsewhere.
How quick is this guys turn around?, other places are at two months.

| Thats Insane!!!!!! Sounds like a very nice man. HE must be a musky fisherman right?[:praise:] | |
| | |
| He is very quick on the turnaround, except when he has to locate obscure parts for discontinued models. He's not at all insane. He's a true blue Yooper, though, and they're sure a quirky, opionated, honest and proud bunch. Admirable qualities, if you ask me. (I asked him if he liked the quality of the Quantum E500 baitcaster I picked up and without hesitation he said, "Nope, and I've fixxed a bunch of those." Trying to regain face, I asked, "How about the Banutm Curados, I have two of those and I really like them." He looked me in the eye and said, "Well, I've fixxed a bunch of those, too.")
I plan to order a bunch of fancy schmancy gears and bearings for my Garcias this winter and have him "turbocharge" those reels for next season. I want new gears to allow much faster retrieves and those ceramic bearings that enable surf casters to flintg 3oz baits up to 300 yards. I want my reels to be downright dangerous, and he's the man to help me.

| I have a friend who just moved to Marinette, I will tell him about the man. I love my curados too, but I have one that keeps screwing up on me. It really screams when I cast it, and it almost busts my eardrums. Any ideas???? | |

| Jason (aka RH),
If your curado is anything like a 6500 when it "screams", I've found it is usually coming from the plastic gear on the left side of the reel. After oiling the gear shaft, the screaming is gone.
| | |
| Thanks dude, I'll try that!!! | |

| I had a Curado do the same thing! look very carefully at the spool bearings. ANY play in them will cause a vibration and sort of a scream on a hard cast. [:((] | |
