Location: Rhinelander, Wisconsin | I love that area, and used to fish it every year for two weeks; one in summer and one late fall. I have caught big muskies within sight of the bridge many times. Classic rock/weed complex structure, great big pike action, super largemouth and smallmouth bass fishing, and great walleye action not too far off.
Make long casts to the edges, I found that to be key in reducing follows part way back and turning many into takers. The water is really clear. Every reef and point from the narrows to Ghost has shown me good fishing of one kind or another over the years. Some of the biggest Pike I've encountered we caught trolling Log Bay. |

Location: Rhinelander, Wisconsin | To expand a bit:
I fished muskies from the bridge through Fire Island narrows, running about 8 miles total one way, hitting every can, point, bay, dock, and weed patch I could find on the way. Never caught or saw any muskies in Regina, which I always thought was odd. Big pike up to 45 on the other hand, were not uncommon all through the system, and especially in the first copule bays by the public boat landing.
I did VERY well in the bays right next to the bridge, believe it or not, and the bass fishing for largemouth by town in the small bays was unreal, as was the smallmouth fishing on the rock reefs next to shore there. No one fishing there, either. We fished Yellow Girl for walleyes, spending one afternoon per week long trip down there for our walleye dinner and any fish we wanted to bring home. There's an island you can see the smiley face rock from with a saddle in a reef out front that's always full of 'Eyes and 12" perch. Hit the Fire island area and the next complex of reefs well, some tanks in there. The memory is a little fuzzy on exact locations as it's been awhile since I've fished the area, but I always enjoyed my trips to the Narrows.
Surface baits were king in the evening and bucktails or cranks during the day. |

Location: Minneapolis | The mouth of Cross Inlet and down by Bell Island are also worth checking out. The water is crystal clear, so low-light conditions are key. I've also seen some monsters right in Whitefish Narrows. |

Location: Rhinelander, Wisconsin | The reef on the left as you go through the Narrows to Fire Island, you can see the bridge behind you...topwater at dusk or early morning, bucktails from a distance during the day.Fish it and the structure by all the cans close to there every time you go by. Enjoy the trip! |
