Location: Northwest Chicago Burbs | How many of you think the two are two different animals? My line of thinking is that yes, you can twitch a crankbait like a depthraider or believer, and yes you can crank a twitch bait like a jake or grandma....but they are different animals and each will shine more or less for different applications?
AND, there are some baits, like a bomber long a mag (personal fave) that looks like a crank, but shines in twitching, and IMHO, sucks for cranking.

Location: Land of the Musky | I am not sure I would call a Jake or Grandma a twitch bait though... IMO they are crankbaits. Hmmmm interesting definition to describe because I also consider some baits with lips twitch baits depending on how the lip is oriented and how the bait moves during normal retrieve. IMO if a bait while retrieved does not have much action BUT when you jerk it in or twitch it creates a lot of action then I would call it a twitch bait. If a bait can be retrieved and it has a lot of action with little input from the user then I would consider it a crankbait. Both are regardless of having or not having lips. Rattle traps are a good point for a crankbait without a lip. This is funny because I just defined my Mag Shad "Twitcher" out of being a "Twitch" bait because it does have action while being retrieved ') ooops!

Location: Cohasset, MN | I'm in the "two different animals" camp. Or at least different sub-species. I know a lot of guys do, but I've never been crazy with the twitch action from the Grandma/Jake. I like that pair for more of a pull/pause retrieve. I think something like the Shallow Raider has a lot more variability in it's twitch motion which is what I'm looking for. |

the "twitch" is interesting. I just bought 3 Tyrant Czar's after seeing a video where the 9" Czar was being twitched. Oh, I know the smaller sizes of Jakes and Grandmas work well when twitching, but I'm impressed with the 9" Tyrant Czar being twitched.
Actually, I think of the Jakes and Grandmas more of a jerk and pause bait. The Tyrant Czar looks more like a true twitch bait with the pause I really like.....hoping they work for me. |

My personal favorite as a twitch bait also. Trout pattern works wonder during this time of year. I twitch 10 inch jakes just like i do other twitch baits. Bucher shallow and depth raiders are really good twich baits as well. |
