| I seem to remember some chatter on here maybe a year ago about Saltists causing line fray at the line guide? Reason I ask is I had 80lb braid (spooled fresh the week before) snap on me last week, which cost me a very productive Curly Sue. Upon further inspection I noticed there was a bit of fraying about 3-4' up from the break. When I looked at the reel I could see that the line (spool is about 3/4, maybe not quite, full) goes on an angle down toward the rod, looks like it rubs against the line guide, then exits the line guide on an upward trajectory. If this is indeed causing the fraying, what a cruddy design flaw! |

| Casted a Saltist since early last Summer and have never had any issues with the line fraying at all. What kind of rod are you using? |

| It's not the rod. I've gone over the guides with Q-tips and have not found any cracks (a crack would leave behind fibers from the Q-tip). |

Location: Twin Cities | Dont load up the saltist or it will rub more than normal on the reel line guide, but I would be suprised if it caused fraying on the line. Keeping the reel under full helps prevent backlashes more than anything. Yes, this is a flaw, but check the reel line guide with Qtip as well.

Location: Wisconsin | The Saltist does not like to be full, bring the line down a bit. Is this a 20? |

| I'll remove some of the line when I get a chance, and check it with a Q-tip. It's a 30HA. |

Location: Twin Cities | Run a 20 and 40 for two seasons now, never a problem, both full. I still have the same line as the original reels purchased, on the 3rd of each however.... |

| have you checked the line guide with a q-tip? that's where you thought the problem might be.
I'd be looking at the rest of the line. It's hard to believe only the last 3 or 4 feet is frayed caused by the reel. I might even check out the leader to see if it could be damaging the line (iust a thought).
When that happens to me, I usually recall fishing some kind of rock area where the line gets frayed by the rocks....or caused by the way I cast a lure........of course, that's just me.... |

| The line is brand new spooled last week. Leader is/was brand new. Only cover I'm fishing is weeds. I'm thinking it's the reel, but will check it carefully with a Q-tip when I get a chance. |

| Had this happen to me last year with stren sonic braid. I changed over to cortland and the problem went away. Maybe you just need a different line. |

| Have you caught any fish using this rod? I'm wondering if the fish itself might have rolled and worn it in some way. In and around the net or something like that possibly??????? I'm just spit-balling here. |
