| I just had my personal favorite rod break (old model Fig Rig) sometime last night or this morning (4 packed Rubbermaids fell on it, jammed it against the wall, SNAP) and am looking to replace it. Has anyone used the new Tooth Tamers? The rod that broke was my favorite glide bait/WTD topwater rod, 7'6" H, but could double well for just about anything. Is the same model, new Tooth Tamer just as light and sturdy (i.e., lots of backbone) as the old ones? (I know lots of guys had issues with Fig Rig, I did not however and hope this thread doesn't spiral into another Fig Rig knock) |

| I actually have used the 8' 6" Med Hvy and 8' 6" XH quite a bit this spring. So far, nothing but good to say. Reasonable price, fairly lightweight, and customers seem to like them too. Probably not quite as light as the Fig Rigs, probably why they haven't broken yet.

Location: Rhinelander, Wisconsin | I have a couple Tooth tamers. Great rods, I agree with Lee. Very similar action, tougher rod. |

| I have been using the Tooth Tamer rods for about a year now and love them. The 7'6" heavy would be a excellent choice for you. I like them a lot better than the Fig Rig and really like the synthetic cork handle on the Tooth Tamer rods.

| Curious/hesitant about the syncork. Is this the same product that a few companies (e.g., Thorne Bros) were putting on their rods (black stuff)? I noticed some folks had issues with the abrasiveness of the material. |

| The syncork looks reel and IMO has a better grip than cork. For how i fish i hold the foregrip and with the syncork your grip sinks in. At least for me i can hold on with less force and still got good hold on the rod.
I love my tamers, great rods |

| I agree 100% with all the good said about the Tooth Tamer rods! The syn-cork has a great feel and looks like the real thing. You won't be disappointed. |

Location: north central wisconsin | You won't be dissapointed with a Tooth Tamer. The new matrix blanks, Pac Bay alconites, beefy reel seats, and comfortable syncork really have set these rods apart from their former namesake.
We tested these rods for the past two seasons, and after lots of use and big fish, there is high confidence in them. That said, the shipment of 8'6" heavy and extra heavies should be here soon. You should be able to pick up an 8'6" medium heavy, and most other models. They've been going fast.
Thse rods tend to 'load' up very nicely in the longer lengths, which is by design. Has made for better big blade casting, and hook sets with the big rubber baits. |

| Just curious whats wrong with fig rig rods? I use a 6'10''heavy one all the time.
I like how lite it is. The only thing I don't like is the reel seat. Not trying to start any trouble. thanks. ![](https://muskie.outdoorsfirst.com/board/images/emoticons/smile.gif) |

| guest, Fig Rigs were notorious for breaking and they went out of business leaving a lot of people stranded with a broken rod and a lifetime warranty from a company that no longer exists. Quite a few of these start up companies offer a warranty that sounds to good to be true only to find out that the warranty is worthless once the company folds as many of them do. |

Thanks for the info reelman. I guess I will ready myself for the ka-pow! when I have a big fish on. ![](https://muskie.outdoorsfirst.com/board/images/emoticons/frown.gif) |

Location: Price County WI | Guest, I wouldn't worry about that 6'10" Heavy, That was one of the good rods we had very few of those come back to the store. I caught a lot of fish on my 6'10" rods and one of my fishing partners is still catching fish on them. |

Location: Price County WI | Two weeks ago I snagged a 60" Sturgeon in the tail with a 7'6" Tooth Tamer throwing a Bobbie Bait. It took 20 min to see the fish and 10 more to get it to the boat to get the hook out of the tail. I don't know how many of you ever played a Sturgeon hooked in the tail, but that thing pulled like a whale. It spooled my reel 3 times and had the rod doubled over like a noodle, if it was going to break that was the time for it to. This is my second season with Tooth Tamer rods and My Clients and I love them. The synthetic cork is great, I don't get a sore hand after a long day of fishing anymore. All in all a great rod. |

| Thanks for the responses guys! I just ordered a 7'6" H from Rollie and Helen's. Looking forward to getting my hands on it.
As a side note, I was very impressed with Bill Green's customer service. I emailed him about ordering a rod and seeing if he would still honor the old warranty on a Fig Rig (different than the one referenced above) that broke a couple years ago while fighting a fish (all caught on film). He was more than willing to work with getting that rod replaced for a small fee, but in the end my father opted to not have it replaced. Either way, his customer service was very well received! |

John,
Thanks for the info! I keep fishing with it, Pretty good jerk bait rod for the money I paid for it. I will think positive now. |
