Hello all, I want to know the opinions of actual owners of this reel.
I am reconsidering the revo winch because of the poor line pickup, the 700TE looks to be built to last, but I dont see many users with them.

I was curious to know if the 700 TE gears are built to last and the differences btw the trinidad 14....longevity etc.... They are almost the same price but I am really interested in the non-disengaging level wind. My brother uses trinidad 14s, it has a higher gear ratio and can crank with ease, but the backlashes have to stop.

I have both the Trinadad 14 and the calcutta 700 TE. The 700 is a powerful reel and i use it mainly for anything big! It pulls in the big blades with ease and is not only powerful but preatty fast at 31" of line per handle turn. The only down side to this reel is the size at 19 oz which is why a lot of guys probably don't use it. It has a levelwind and the non disengaging is not an issue. After a couple minutes you won't even notice it. I put the reel on a 9' 6" XH rod so it actualy balances nicely on a larger rod. It really depends on what rod your going to put it on and for what purpose. The Trinadad 14 is lighter but not much faster (36" per turn if spooled full) because you can't fill them with line all the way to prevent backlash. I think the 700 TE is as fast and more powerful. The only advantage with the trinadad 14 is it's lighter! Now if you move up to the Trinadad 16 no contest when it comes to speed. As far as durability there both work horses that should last forever.

ok thanks, how about the older 700's ? They appear to be smaller is size and have a push button release as well as a smaller/wider spool.

If I am not correct it appears that the 700 TE is taller than the trinidad 14 which may be bad on the hands palming that all day.

I have both the 700te and a trinidad 14,both reels perform great and have plenty of power and speed. The huge difference is size. The 14 is almost identical in size to a 400te and the manual engagement and no level wind becomes old hat in just a few minutes of use imo a non issue, for me when the 14 is spooled to the proper levels and the reel is set right for the bait in use nothing i have tried casts as far and as effortlessly.
The 700te is HUGE and a little much for palming but i do find myself doing it some times, but is better suited to working from the fore grip.
Its plenty fast and built like a tank, like all the te line of reels.
One thing with the 700 is it has a huge spool diameter and dosent favor lighter baits and requires baits on the heavier side to generate good spool speed, for me this was not the greatest reel for big blades, the lighter weight bait resulted in shorter casts and more effort put forth to attain consistently good distance.
This is not the case with the 14.
However the 700 shines with huge plastic like pounders mamoth sues and suzies.
Imo both reels are great but have there own distinct and very differnt purpose that they both do well.
I have delegated my 14 to a dedicated blade reel and the 700te to the job of monster plastic and huge cranks.
In this function they both work great for me.

my 700 TE is the only reel i have owned that i have not broke from casting lures. i don't use it everytime i fish, but it's still the only reel i have not broke. I do not palm my reels, so i dont care about the size of the reel.it's fine w/ me. the 700 TE,i feel,is a MUCH better option than any Abu 7000 (i have owned 5 different Abu 7000's).
if you buy a 700 TE used, that will be about the same price as a new Abu 7000. if the Calcutta 700 TE breaks, shimano doesn't care if you are the original ower or not. just send it in. they do somelike 48 hour turn around time for all TE repairs and prices are very reasonable.
I also adjusted my 700 TE handle to extend it the exttra inch (very easy to do) and that makes it even faster.
EVerytime i'm on water with 40 pounders,i always bring my 700 TE. the little "flip" you use to cast instead of a button is no big deal at all. i can cast mine a mile.

I sold my trinidad 14 and bought 700te. The 700te is just as fast, just as powerful and like everyone else said the only drawback is the size. It makes my abu garcia 7000's feel like low profile bass reels. I always palm it though, but people w/ smaller hands might not be able to.

ok some very good info here, Another member on here mentioned to weight your bucktails with a 3/4 split shot (for the trinidad). I really only fished the trinidad for one day, but it seemed like the line liked to bunch up in the middle and I admit I backlashed every 7th cast or so.

On another note, is the older 700 series (push button release) a good intermediate option?

I've used my new 700TE twice this year--I bought it to replace an Abu 7000C3i on my Slingblade for blade baits and wow, what an upgrade. Fast, powerful, smooth. Couldn't be happier with it. The size is no problem for me at all but I could see how it would be tough on people with smaller hands. A lot of scratch but worth it to me.

Agreed. It's a handful, but not uncomfortable to palm and it works the blades with ease. Small hand though, it would be too much.

I use a 700TE as well, I disagree with Kawartha Kid though as I can easily cast baits like a mepps marabous to top raiders to Pounders with it. I run 100 lb Power Pro. By far my favorite reel. I haven't got to try the Trinidad's though.
