Location: N.FIB | the doc had to cut them out,he said I didn`t leave enough of the hook, well when you get up off the ground and see a bait in your leg with the hook cutters in your lakewood next to you all I was thinking about was cutting the hooks since it was passed the barb. The doc even knew it was a muskie hook and took a pic with his phone |

Location: Beaver County, Pennsylvania | had that happen a time or two...i just (and i know it hurts like hell) push the hook back out.....i was told this shouldnt be done but i had a bad experience with a lady next to me in the ER when I was little who had a lure stuck in her. she was a grown woman and i was about 7 or 8 and the way she screamed bloody murder getting it cut out will forever remain with me. i did have my buddy cut one out before with a razor blade....anything but the ER for me for hook related punctures. |

| The eye picture is scary and this is why you always need to wear glasses in the boat. I have a friend who lost an eye when he was 8 to a hook. Make sure your kids always have glasses on in the boat. I wear clear safety glasses for night fishing and barbless is starting to look better and better.

As a long time wearer of glasses, I would not recommend them for fish hook protection.
By the time some get done advising and regulating us, we will not be able to musky fish without an inflated, puncture proof lifepreserver, on, of course, a helmet with full face mask, heavy shoes, body armour, a personal location transponder, and a depends, backed up by a safety depends. And the problem with all this stuff is, my heart will probably kill me, and all this stuff won't have done me a bit of good.

Do whatever you want but protecting your eyes while fishing sure makes sense to me. My friend with one eye would agree with me also. |

Location: SE Wisconsin | Hmmm. . . Why not wear a helmet?
Next time you see a guy with a snowmobile helmet on while throwing for skis, that's me so stop by and have a beer. . . You may have to help feed the straw through the shield for me, but you'll get a cold one out of it

Location: West Haven, UT | Ouch, I feel your pain. I had an experience with a 6/0 3551 mustad in my face over the winter. I also was not fishing. $100 ER copay or push it out and order me a $100 worth of lures. Outcome below

Location: Ames, Iowa | #*^@! Pushed it through yourself? Got Tammy in the back of the head with a big spinnerbait couple years ago and made the trip to Grand Rapids ER near midnight. All of the kids now wear framed sunglasses for at least some protection in addition to UV protection. Teaching them to cast without bringing the rod all the way back to 3 oclock has been a priority. |

This was the first thread that actually made me feel like fainting. I agree with all of the safety suggestions here and try to be as careful as possible when on the water and handling anything with hooks ... but these photos are pretty scary.
YIKES! |
