First 2 leader failure in one day

Man what an awfull day that was, lost me 2 spinnerbaits ( one had over 18 fish on it when I stopped counting, probably between 20 to 25 by then ).

First thing in the morning I was getting the rods ready to start fishing when I let the lure swing away after taking it out of the eyelet when it just dropped in the water GRRRRRRR. Now this was the rod/reel and lure that caught Zach's 53 incher the night before and was still used some 30 minutes after that capture. After inspection the leader wire broke close to the snap and to make it worse as I grabbed the leader to cut it off my line the wire broke at the swivel end of it, now this thing broke twice at the same time.

Naturaly I put on a new leader from a different manufacturer to be safe, so I believed it would. Fished with it all day untill we get to the big fish spot at big fish time and the big fish hits. Now I set the hooks to feel the line snap so I believed as I actualy never felt the fish but just my line having nothing on the end of it. After inspection I had but half my swivel left. [:(] Now these leaders had some small ball bearing swivels that tend to get fauled up once in a while and need two hands to twist it back to normal. I believe this was the cause for this bran new swivel to break in half. Now I may have a big girl swimming around with my favorite spinnerbait and a 12 inch leader in her mouth. [:((]

Another strange happening that afternoon I somehow casted into a lillypad bed to bring out some fishing line. Been very causious as I lost a believer and some 60+ feet of line to a fish some 2 weeks before in that area. Well wouldn't you know it this was my believer, leader and some 100' of 80# powerpro. [:)] Now what a fluke to find your long lost lure and to do it in a way you would never fish LOL. This lure was lost when the line wrapped itself around the second eyelet of my rod and as we were trolling the fish hit and the clicker was not on and all we heard was the weard sound of line wrapped around your rod for a second and then nothing left at the end of the rod. Hmmm guess I have to check the rods clients set up more often now huh. [:p]

richard-
hate loosing those lucky lures; never know what makes 1 lure over others so productive. i feel for your loss, lost my best tail few years back and still trying to make a perfect replacement.
just curious about your leaders tho- why don't you make them yourself? make them to the exact length and lb. test you want, use the components you desire, and will KNOW the workmanship is topnotch. good luck!

Steve, I make my own 4' mono leaders for fall trolling but find it to much a pain in the you know what to find the right components and time to make my own single strand leaders.

I buy nothing but the best and try out some new brands every year as I have yet to find a suplyer that I can get them from anytime I want them.

One thing for sure I am going to stick with is the thick wired ones as well as larger swivels. [:blackeye:]

I used to use ball bearing swivels on my leaders until I found out how much cheaper crane swivels are. I have never had one break. I usually use them somewhere between 100 and 175 lb test. Then again, I never had a problem with 135 lb berkly ball bear swivels either, but they are expensive (and I didnt' use them as much)
