| I have no problems what so ever sleeping every other day of my life. Even the night before deer season begins. However the nights before I go musky hunting It takes me sometimes 4 hours tossing around before I finally go to sleep. I tell myself I am not going to think about what cabbage bed to start on, or what color topraider I am gonna have my buddy throw, or what direction I am going to run my figure eight etc..... My friend tells me a 1/2 bottle of crown works for him, But I am not a drinker. Anything you guys do that helps you keep your mind from wandering the night before a hunt? I am to the point I am better off not going to sleep. |

| Spend some quality time with the girlfriend/wife. Or if you don't have one, work on getting one. Like others have mentioned find something that will make you relax and take your mind off fishing. Watch a movie or read a book perhaps. |

| Read a book--like Time On The Water--until you fall asleep. Or read something difficult. It will work every time. |

That don't work for me. If I read anything to do with fishing or hunting it just gets me more amped up. I have the same issue of not falling asleep the first night at the cabin. Best thing I have found is just go fishing that night until I get tired. Drag myself to bed, or truck, and sleep like a baby until the alarm is going off a few hours later. |

| If you live alone...no roommate or wife and no kids....crank up the tunes and play Tetris. Don't knock Tetris. Trust me...once your eyes start to dry out when you're at 250+ plus lines on that game with the tunes goin'....it'll knock you out in a hurry.
If you do have roommate/wife/kids: Add Headphones to the above prescription.
Sometimes...simplicity rules. |

| Nothing will force you to sleep without adverse affects. My advice is not to waste that time laying there thinking about the trip and to just get the trip started. Pack up and leave after you get out of work, or whatever. If you start getting tired pull off and get in a power nap, or two. Then get back to it. The net result of being tired will be the same, but you’ll be a lot closer to putting all those ruminative thoughts to work, versus climbing into the truck later in the morning, or when you are even more tired from not being able to sleep. Just as long as you pull off as soon as you feel tired in a truck stop you’ll probably feel better and put more time on the water, and hopefully more fish in the boat. If you can, switch drivers and nap in the passenger’s seat, just don’t pull a hero routine and think you can drive through it.

| I used to have that problem bad. A girl has mellowed me out but before her I'd try to get off a little early the day of so I'd have time to fish a few hours that night. It takes the edge off majorly. If you know the lake I'll go out even if it's well after dark for a couple hours. Casting, marking structure on electronics, feeling the fresh air and hearing the lapping water will all help you sleep. Stay out till you can feel your eyes getting heavy and head in. I've gotten some really nice fish doing that when in the past I woulda been laying awake all night. If you can't though for some reason try a melitonin or nyquil. I don't drink either and on rare occasions I'll use one of those when I gotta get sleep. |

Depends on who the mate is. There are some that will keep you up all night, God bless them. |
