My wife and I are heading up north to Lac Vieux Desert for the first time 9/12 thru 9/15. How are the muskies biting? Can anyone give me some tips on where to focus my efforts that time of year and what kind of lures to use? I have done a lot of musky fishing and have a Fishing Hot Spots map of the lake. I will give you all a report when we return.

Good fishing.

I suggest you work the south and west shores. I would go with bucktails 1oz - 1.5oz and go with "natural" colors. If possible, go out at night and by all means go with surface lures. Work the weed lines on the west shore(by Sunrise Lodge) casting both sides. You want to be in the 6-10ft range. I mostly fish it at night/early morning(5:30a - 8:00am) because of the heavy traffic during the day time. If a cold front comes thru, you may also consider using live bait(suckers) and a quick strike rig. Val over at the Minnow Bucket Bait Shop has some dandy ones to choose from. I prefere to use suckers that range between 18"-22".
I'll be up there filming with The Outdoor Sportsman that first week of September and will pass along any info on "The Vieux" or Vute as we affectionately call it.
I hope this was helpful...
Best Wishes and Great Fishing,

p.s. It wouldn't hurt to use scent either!![;)]

Will be fishing LVD on 5-15-2003. Looking for a current water temp.
Hoping for some sunshine and rising water temps.

Well, I can't tell you the water temp, but last I heard the local weather is suppose to be GREAT on Thursday and Friday. Sun, clouds and low 70s.
