| It seems like everytime I set the hook Got Em Dude comes out of my mouth. I really dont even know where it comes from. Everyone I fish with has there own way of letting me or everybody on the lake know they have got one on. Just wondering how it goes down with the rest of you. |

| Its usually "got em" if the fish is following the bait, then eats and/or goes around on the 8 and eats , end of cast or blind strike I tend to say "fish" or "fish on"

Location: Minnesota: where it's tough to be a sportsfan! | My utterence is "here we go", don't know when it started but it's a habit for sure. my favorite one is a guy that I fish with once a year. As soon as he hooks up he YELLS :Rodeo, yeee haaa. At first it was annoying now I love it. He is so fired up anything less would not match the moment. Of course he's OKLA. too so that helps. |

| Yeah...everyone has their "saying." Most of those sayings, when heard in the boat by others, know what's going on. However, that being said...I was thrown for a loop one time fishing with my cousin years ago and him getting his first muskie. I was in the back of the boat, he was up on the front deck. I was fishing back behind the boat, concentrating on what I was doing, my back turned to my cousin and all I hear my cousin exclaim is:
"Dude! Dude! For Real!"
I was confused. I didn't quite comprehend what it was he was talking about at first, until I felt the boat kinda lunge and I turned to see him fighting his rod that was doubling over. Being his callout didn't fit "the mold" of those traditional sayings, such as "Got One!" or "Fish On!" or "Get the Net!" it wasn't until then...and only then...did I know what he was talking about.
That cracked me up and we still talk about it to this day and from now on...that's kinda become his trademark "call sign" as to when he has a fish on. |

| I noticed that from the Keyes series, Mike Keys repeats "got um" 2-3 times when a fish is hooked......no matter who's line its on. Maybe this is a sound bite edited in there on the computer, or a force of habit reaction to hype up the strike for the show.
I think I'm usually silent. Never paid attention. When a fish strikes and the hookset is successful, usually everyone in the boat senses it within a nanosecond anyway. |

| Mine utterance is either "there's a fish" or "there's one". I had no idea what I was even saying...had to ask my boat partner(s). |

That reminds me of my buddy's brother who whenever he saw a deer it was an 8 pointer. If it actually had horns it was a 10. |

| My good musky fishiing friend, and I have kind of our own language altogether. So, we talk kind of funny anyway especially when we're fishing together. I am fairly new to musky fishing and I still get into something similar to a "complete panic" mode when I see a fish. So, it is typically a quite loud, "GIG" or "I GOTTA GIG!!!!!"
Don't ask me why......that is just what it has become. |

|
| Got em Jim! Even if the guy fishing with me isn't named Jim. I got it from watching an Infisherman musky video.
Sometimes it might be "There it is, Got em Jim!" |

Location: Hopefully on the water | There has been different ones in the boat. But imo any are good to hear words of a fish. I hope to hear much of it this weekend on the Indian lake chain in Canada. Mainly from my 7 year olds hoping to break the ice for him with his first one this weekend.
For me it is mainly "Fish" if it is following it is "Follow, follow" Then if lucky enough on the 8 it is "Got Em". |

| Someone told me once that I say "I'm on" when I hook a fish. Not sure where that came from, but I thought it was stupid so I make sure not to say it now. In fact I ususally don't say anything except maybe "there's one" when I've raised a fish, and "got 'em" when I hook one. Often times I'll say nothing at all until my boat partner looks over and says something like "you got a fish? Why didn't' ya say somethin'?!" to which I'll usually reply "why, you gonna reel the %^$#* thing in for me or something?" |

One partner of mine has been known to say, 1) I think I got something, or 2) There's something on my line...
He's been hardcore musky since way before me, yet he still exclaims his hookups in the most amateur way - provides for a good laugh. |

Location: Lake Tomahawk, WI | Being a big Gillespie fan, we've always tried to pay homage by immatating him.
We'll yell 'Big fish, Pete!!!!!!!!" about 50 times, followed by "Get the Frabill!!!!!!"
Maybe throw in the time-tested "You just earned yourself a Johnsonville!!!!!!!!" after the fish is netted.
Even off the water, watching dvr'd Gillespie episodes on a Saturday night, we have a drinking game which involves taking a swig every time he says "I'll tell you what, folks".
Gotta love the ol' Gillesp, and in all seriousness, he produces the most entertaining fishing show on TV. Heard a rumor he's going to retire, say it ain't so John!!!!
