Question about my little Evinrude 6 h.p.

How can I get it to idle slower...I know relatively little about motors, but could someone walk me through this. When the motor is running as fast as it will go and then I slow, the r.p.m doesn't slow and it sounds like it's going to continue to go as fast as the little 6 will go :o)

Is this something I can do on my own?

Hiya,

I'm not quite following what you mean by it not slowing down... When you turn the throttle handle down, does the motor just stay at full? If it does, that I would bet will be a cable issue running from the throttle handle to the carb.

If you throttle down and it idles high, there are potentially two different things that can be done, depending on how old the motor is. If your stop switch is on the handle end, an idle adjustment might be able to be made right there. The small round portion at the end of the handle can be turned counterclockwise, which will slow the idle down.

The other option is to go under the hood and find the idle stop screw...it should be at the end of the throttle cable. turn that counterclockwise and it will allow the motor to idle down more.

Should be able to get a good 6hp to slow down really nice..
