Location: Iowa		In the post that got frozen about fishing before season opens a guy said "if your figure eighting - your muskie fishing".

I was thinking I'm so used to figure eighting that I do it for everything now. When I'm doing some bass fishing - I figure eight. When I trying to fish for some walleyes and bring the lure back to the boat - I figure eight. It's amazing how embedded that technique gets over time.

Location: Northern Wisconsin		I find my self figure eighting while wading for smallmouths too.

I have caught a few bass in the 8, while fishin for bass. Did not intentionally 8, but it was instinct and it worked. Have also had VERY big bass go around 8-10 times on musky baits.

I have done the same thing from time to time--thought I was the only strange 1 but I am glad to hear there are others in the club. Nothing like a strike on the eight--most exciting thing in fishing.

This brings up an excellent question that I've often wondered about... the first time I heard about finishing off the cast with a figure-8 is obviously when I began musky fishing.

What is specifically about the esox species that has an added benefit when casting for this type of fish?

Aside from the musky fisherman who figure-8's when he/she occasionally fishes for bass... why is that largemouth bass fisherman don't figure-8 after every cast?  What about guys who don't specifically target musky but enjoy fishing for northern pike?  What about smallmouth bass fisherman?  ...just curious.

I've F8ed more than one springtime walleye. At times they can be some real followers and they're a sucker for it at boatside if they don't spook.

I'd surely think any following fish, of any species, could be duped. Why not do it?

Location: Yahara River Chain		I think the reason muskies follow and hit on a 8 is because they concentrate so much on their prey that they don't care what's happening around them. Only thing they are interested in that prey item in front of them. Those other species of fish don't because I think they know if they aren't aware of other fish (i.e. muskies) they themselves will become the next meal.
