I broke my 8 foot avid rod last week and called st Croix for a new rod. Theyadvised me they no longer make the Musky series Avid rods, but I could choose a new Tournament series rod instead. Can anyone make a suggestion as to which rod they would reccommend? I cast mostly bucktail, crank baits, some jerkbaits. Thanks Mike

Sling Blade would be appropriate for those applications, maybe a little soft for the jerkbaits, though. TM86HF or LTM86HF

I had a couple of the 8' Avids, really loved the versatility of those rods.

After fishing with Travis Kopke, I learned to love the action of the 8'6" Lamiglas. I now use those for everything I throw except pounders and double 10s, and pretty sure a lot of guys use them for double 10s. If you're open to something other than a St. Croix, check 'em out, they can throw both lighter baits and mag dawgs. They feel whippy at first compared to the Avid, but they have backbone for setting the hook and the rod's action really helps keep fish pinned.

If they'll give you a deal on a LT, hard to pass that up. Those rods seems to be a bit more technique-specific and less versatile.

If you love the Avid series, consider having one built by a custom builder, there may still be a blank or two available.

I got the 8' top-n-tail legend and it works good for small/medium bucktails, topwater, suicks ,phantoms, regular bulldawgs and small/medium cranks. Very versitale rod hopes this helps you in your decision this info is just my two cents on the rod.
