| A friend has had two C4's break off of the reel seat in the last two months. Not the rod seat but the part of the reel that gets screwed down in the rod reel seat. The small welds that hold the round part of the reel to the flat seat broke free. I was with him the first time and the reel broke on the hookset. I held the rod then and he reeled in the fish while holding the reel in his hands. WE boated a 41-incher that time. He sent the reel back and the same thing happened with the new one Garcia sent him. He got that one in too, 42 inches that time. Anyone else have this problem or any thoughts? |

Location: Minnesota: where it's tough to be a sportsfan! | I have had other guys tell me they have had this same problem. However I have not had one go down yet. With all the setup's I probably have 12 C4, 6500's in action. Would like to know what Pure Fishing is saying about it. |

| Reel seats breaking is a very, very rare problem. To have it happen to the same guy twice in such a short time makes me wonder if the reel seat on the rod is goofy in some way. Garcia will almost always replace the frame at no charge if the seat breaks off as long as it wasn't run over by a truck! |

Location: Yahara River Chain | It tells me the guy is using the reel handle to help with the hook set putting too much pressure on the seat pulling it in two different directions.

Location: Minnesota | It sounds like sideways torque on the hookset to me too. The only reels I use are Abu's of different sizes and I have never heard of a reel seat breaking like that. Wierd! |

| Thanks for the replies. I've also wondered about him putting too much pressure on the reel handle when he sets the hook. I'll mention that to him and see what he thinks. |

| I had the same thing happen to (2) Penn 975's. The seat was a tad loose before even being placed on the rod. They must have been built on a Friday.LOL. Never had another problem with subsequent 975's. Weird deal. |
