Location: Ogden, Ut | I currently run a 50 hp Yamaha - 1990 vintage. So it's in the midst of it's 20th year of service. Nothing more than routine maintenance since I've owned it (2002).

| I would get the Mercury in a 4 stroke over the 2 stroke, I've had a 50 hp merc for 6 years now and really like it. |

Location: Rhinelander, Wisconsin | I have a Merc 4 stroke 40, and it's been very good to me. Keith runs one of the Merc 2 strokes and it's also been great. Both are 2003 models. |

| I own a 1993 40 Merc 2 stroke with oil injection since it was brand new and other than basic mantience, smoking it down every winter and taking it in for a tune-up every 3 years I've never had a problem with this motor. I've thought about tradeing it in for a 75 or 90 4 stroke my boats rated for a 115 but i guess if it ain't broke don't fix it and I'd have to admit I'd have a hard time parting with this motor I think I got my money's worth. The one thing I have noticed in the last 5 years or so with all brands of 4 stroke motor's 150 and up is I've come across more than a few guy's broken down out on the water and had to pull them back to the dock.

Location: Minneconia | Owned a Merc 50 2 stroke for a few years in the early 2000's, had good luck with it. Run a Yammy F115 now and issue free for 5 years. Cant go wrong either way I'd say. |

Location: Stevens Point, WI | The Mercury Optimax and Forstrokes are both great choices. The Opti will be better on gas, speed, and holeshot. The Fourstrokes will be quieter and you won't have to add oil, but you'll lose a little on top end and holeshot. If it were me, I'd go with the Optimax. The noise difference isn't that big a deal, they've really quieted them down a lot over the years! |
