| Has anyone been out night fishing this spring with any success?
I've only been out night fishing a few times but am thinking about going friday night - midnight to try for a couple skis.
In your opinion, is it worth it? Full moon is thursday night...
Tactics? Most of the articles I've read about night fishing seem to favor slow rolling big blades at night and topwater action. |

| yes, yes, and topwater, cranks and bucktails are the 3 main baits I use at night.

| Fishing at midnight IS legal right? I know like the trout season you must wait until daylight. I believe Musky season is open at 12:00 though. Can anyone verify? |

| Thanks Brad. Do you do much night fishing in spring or is it thought of as more a summer tactic?
How many others are planning to head out at midnight as well? |

Location: Contrarian Island | fish will eat at night any day of the season....from the 1st to the last before ice up...yes, I do fish at night now and have since the opener...as water temps warm it usually gets better but never rule it out any time of year

Location: Pelican Lake/Three Lakes Chain | One thing you have to keep in mind is that this is not a typical "spring". Water temps are usually in the upper 50's to lower 60's on the northern opener, this year they are climbing nearer 70. I don't think anyone has a problem night fishing in 68* water temps.
You have to follow water temps, not the calendar. Not your typical spring. |

Location: Contrarian Island | Norm, i don't even think you "have" to follow water temps..imo it is more in our mindset than the fishes when they are eating or not eating...if water temps were normal and you got them to eat during the day they can just as easily be active and fooled at night... windows have been short this May but imo there could be windows at night that fish get just as active as they have during the day...the majority of guys just aren't out there to figure out when that is....don't let water temps or the calendar decide when to fish..let the fish tell you...while I will generally agree fish activity in spring is better during the day how many of us are out there at night to prove or disprove they aren't eating ?
look at what some guys do trolling in the late fall at night on some MN lakes

Location: Pelican Lake/Three Lakes Chain | BN, I agree with you 100%, but the point I was trying to get across is alot of things will be different right off the bat this year because of the higher water temps. I think those fishing strictly by the calendar, throwing 6" twitchbaits in shallow spawning areas won't see as much success as those pitching bucktails and topwater on the edges.
I see a lot of people misread conditions throughout the year because they do what worked last year at this time. I think a more apt indicator of what may work is the water temp. |
