What lure to use in the trees

The lake I fish is clear and loaded with trees. A lot of them (kind of like an underwater forest) are 30 - 50 ft. tall and come close to the surface, but are completly underwater. We troll thru these trees and do catch supsended Tiger Muskies (that's all that we have here in Maryland). Usually the fish are between 15-20 ft. deep. My favorite lure is the 8" Believer which is fairly good at getting thru these trees, but they DO get hung up. When trolling these lures, I've been using 80lb. powerpro or Tuffline and have tried 50lb. Spiderwire. The 80 lb. line is plenty strong to yank out the lures if they get hung up. The Spiderwire is great in that the lures go deeper due to the thin line but sometimes is not strong enough (sometimes) to get my lures back. Yes-I have a good plugg knocker that works most of the time.

Questions: Is there a more weedless crankbait to use, and what about my line? Thanks

I too bang a lot of timber here on Cave Run Lake and have found that many lures work in timber better than others. First I feel Power Pro 80lb is the most abbrasion resistant line you can use when fishing wood and has the strenght to pull them out of the timber. As for baits I have found that Bill Norman's 6" baltic minnow and Hellbenders are hard to beat as is the Baby DepthRaider and Lil"Ernie (when rubberbanding the front hook to the body). The Invader and Wiley Fat Body come threw good too. Willow leaf bucktails also hangup less. As for smaller baits try 00 AC Shiners and JB Lures 007. The most important factor when fishing timber is to learn to feel your line hit the wood before your lure does, it takes some practise and concentration but really works once you've learned the feel. Also learning the way the structure lays is key.
Hope this helps. Tony Grant kymuskie.com

Spinner bait spinner bait spinner bait. Whack it against the tree! Flutter it down and around!

Also ANY floating big lipped bait that you can "Feel" the wood with.

Have you tried jigging? I've got the trial jigs in send me your address.
