Subject: St. Clair ........help?

We're thinking of hitting St. Clair this weekend. Since there is only two of us, spending $650 to drag behind the S.S. Minnow (guide) is not an option. Is anyone out there willing to share just some very high level info (general areas) about where we should be spending our time? If you don't want to tell the world, please drop me an email [email protected]

Thanks a ton.

Lunchie,

I was on St Clair 2 years ago, the first week of July. Went out of Mitchell's Bay on the Canada side. My customer and I got 3, in 12-14 FOW. All sand bottom on that end, with scattered weeds. Fish came on 10" sucker Believers, and a green Terminator T2. The guide told us that later in July and August, the area farther south, around Belle River heats up.

One other option would be to try Balls Deep charter. As I already had booked another guide, I didn't book him. But he did tell me that his price is $90/day per person, whether it's 2 or 6 people going. Not sure of his web addy, but if you search on St Clair, you should find him listed. Sounded like a nice guy, and pretty knowledgeable.

They troll real fast there, 5-8 MPH. Water is very clear. Not sure what the ski's relate to, but every once in a while we'd pass a weed and get a rip. There are some very big, fat fish in this lake. We caught one 46, that I would describe as obese. It actually had fat cheeks! What a slob.

Good luck, have fun.

Tight Lines,

Shep[:sun:]

The good thing about St. Clair is that you can go in blind, troll, and catch muskies. They can be/ARE EVERYWHERE. In the weeds which are all around the shoreline, or out in the vast, plain, emptiness, there are fish. Throw on some shallow running lures and cover water fast, simple as that. The water can be all shades of blue to green to gray to clear. For some great specific info, check out the reports on Rocketman's page (maker of the awesome Terminators):

http://www.muskie-lures.com/rocketman/index1.htm

They will use a lot of St.Clair specific terminology and tactics, but that's all explained on the website too. Good luck! And if you have questions you can get good answers in a forum type thing at:

I think that weird address should work, if not just go to michigan-sportsman.com and navigate your way to the Lake St. Clair page. Also, there are a few guys who know St. Clair pretty well in our M.Inc. chapter at:

http://www.muskiesonline.com/cgi-bin/dcforum/dcboard.cgi?az=list&fo...

Hope these all help, I don't have much info first hand but I know where to get it!
