Subject: Leecher or Not?

Location: Yahara River Chain		There was some discussion last night about some of the fish in our lakes. I would like some opinions on this. 3 fish I have cropped for your eyes. The three photos and the possible answers can be 1) all WI Stain 2) all Leech Lake Strain 3) 2 WI & 1 LL Strain or 4) 1 WI & 2 LL Strain.

What do you think?

All the Wisconsin fish pictures that I get show a dark green fish with no spots, so I'll say all Leech fish.

Location: WI		2nd one is too small. 1 and 3 are LL strain.

Hard to tell. The fish look small/juvenile and when they're that small their patterns are much more pronounced. Spots and body patterns are much more defined on small fish...

Many of the small Madison chain fish look spotted. In my opinion the ones with the green spots are Wisconsin strain fish. I have seen two fish on the Madison chain that I thought were Leech lake strain. The spots were small, distinct and very dark- they almost appeared black. The background on these fish was very white as well. I think many people are maistakenly calling the small Wisconsin strain fish with spots Leech lakers. In your photos 2 of the 3 look to be Leech lake to me- the top and the bottom.

Location: 15 miles east of Lake Kinkaid		All of the fish I have caught in clear water in Illinois and Kentucky have those spots on them as juveniles...I am guessing #4

Top is a Leech, other two are WI. The last one is a small WI fish that hasn't grown up yet.

Don't forget the most important part....the prep....you gotta get that "Y" bone out when you fillet a muskie for a nice clean fillet. I have a tutorial video on how its done if anyone needs it....Just send me a PM
