| Anyone ever fish Yellowstone Lake in Lafayette county, WI?
We were out on Pewaukee yesterday and got tossed all around in the big waves. Had 5 follows, all decent fish.
Looking to try a new lake while the fever in still high on Pewaukee. Heard Yellowstone has some nice sized skis and a good walleye population. Sounds like a good combo for a day trip.
Any thoughts/advice please share.

| Fished it last year, had difficulty locating a good map or any structure out there. According to the guy at the bait shop there are many cribs out there, but locating them can be difficult. Beautiful lake....couldn't get raise anything though. Good luck. I'd love to hear how you do |

Location: Oregon, WI | Been there a couple of times. Will probably not be going back anytime soon. Many other lakes to choose from. Twin Valley, Redstone, Swan, Waubesa, Monona, Wingra, Lake Wisconsin. |

Location: Madison Wi. Chain | THere are two lakes in the park at Govenor Dodge. One is Twin Valley which has a bunch of muskies in it. I don't think the other lake has any musky. Great landing, Electric only, great sucker lake. BG |

| I have fished it 20-25 times the last three years for muskie have not caught one yet. (Its close to my house) a few small Pike. lots of snags tried trolling lost 3 crankbaits in an hour. Very dirty Have caught a few walleye fishing for them but usually get catfish and bullheads and lots of them. Its like 300 acres and on weekends there will be people skiing and pulling tubes every where its a zoo. Park guy told me very low numbers of muskie one per 10 acres. As others have said Gov dodge is a lot better usually I average one fish every other time there.

| I've had pretty good luck fishing at yellowstone. Cranks, jerks, and bucktails have all been good for me. You will lose a few lures while fishing there at times. Best fishing is early morning and late in the afternoons because of the boat traffic. Its nice to fish there because 99% of the other boats are not fishing for musky. |

| Thanks for the replies guys. Ummm, not sure we will be heading there tomorrow. I had my concerns and was using the large number of walleyes as a fall back plan. Bro and I will see how we feel in the morning. Supposed to be really cold and windy, and the bluffs surrounding Yellowstone could provide some shelter, but if the lake sucks it might not be worth it.
I will post back to let you know how we do regardless. Any thoughts on how the quick chill down will affect fishing? Smaller baits? Slower presentation? |

| That fish was 48-49 tops they had nothing to measure it. They also had it out of the water for 20min. That was ten years ago. |

| It actually was measured by the park staff and was legitamately over 50 inches, and it was more like 3 years ago. We may be refering to 2 different fish |

| After reading all the posts, I looked up all the other lakes around us to find an alternative. We decided Saturday morning to stick to the original plan. We got there and only trolled a few muskie lures back to the launch. We had fun chasing down the waldos and actually caught a few. It was a good trip. My brother actually caught a real nice bass on a pearsons grinder muskie spinner down by the dam. That was cool. Good finish to the day. Sometimes you try new lakes to eliminate them, we added this one to the list to try again. Will we try some more muskie action next time. There were a couple guys tossing ski lures, but they had no luck. |

| BTW, i love how hostile muskie fishermen get regarding other peoples catches. All the big fish report lasts year and anglers throttling the catch because they think it was completely unbelievable. Its entertaining and ridiculous at the same time.

| The fish a few years back was legit and caught in the lake, if you do some research there are pics and an article featured about the fish, if I get the time I will dig it up. I grew up fishing Yellowstone as a kid and watched the old man and his buddies catch several ski's soaking creek caught chubs above the Dam. One of my most memorable musky catches was with my Grandpa below the Dam around 10 years ago, fishing walleye and a healthy 40 incher took my jig, as I navigated him to shore the Game Warden happens to be watching and was able to get some good pics with the old man, the picture of me and my Grandpa is proudly displayed in the man cave today!

Location: Madtown, WI | I have fished the lake a couple times. Lost a good fish there back many moons ago...gets nasty dirty though due to all the boat traffic. There are, or where, some real monsters in the lake...but like others said, very small numbers. I wouldn't make a big drive to fish it...but if I lived close I would hit it.
This fish was caught there...don't know the guy or anything, I have just had the pic in my files for a while...not sure anyone can argue its a beaut..

| I was looking up some info on Yellowstone Lake and came across this article:

Heres a pic of the fish they pulled out of Yellowstone in 2006. Its said to be 57". If you want to read the full article, page back to the beginning. Looks to be some nice fish in there.

| I used to go to Yellowstone Lake on the first weekend in May and had good success catching Crappie and Walleye (20-30 a day). I wasn't there for a few years but went this week. Only caught 2 small walleye and a 4 lb. bass. Maybe it was too late in the spring for our honey hole to produce, or maybe the lake has gone down hill. Anybody with the same experience, or is it still good in early May? |
