| Well it has been mostly a miss of a spring. Too cold early with too much water down south, then blah, then a few musky and a couple stripers and then I started to hit a weather cycle where my time off, often 3-4 days in a row for the last month, coincided with poor fishing weather, cooling dry air masses. Oh well, you hit that sometimes. Other times, like last fall, I got a nice consistent pattern of decent weather for fishing on my days off. You get what you get.
Anyway, I have pretty well missed the night casting for striper. I am sure it occurred but not on my nights, and now it is getting warm and Green River got 2 inches one day, over 4 inches the next. Flood is on. So........anyway, they WERE releasing 80,000 cubes yesterday, and i thought that would just make a heluva good picture, as even 5-8,000 is really a lot of water tearing out of the spillway down there. Made the drive just to look around and get some pictures. Get over there with creeks still flooding and mostly dirt and naturally, find they have shut things down and are running a lousy 115 cubes. So busied myself trying to get some pictures of the stilling pool where the water comes out. Now this is basically full of fish and probably fuller after all that water they were letting out, saw a couple musky but hard to get a picture. One was in the 42 inch extremely fat range. You could see it roaming around just high enough to make out the silouette(Sp). Another one was maybe 32" and actually came out of the water for a second. Mostly the fish we saw were gar, lots of I think what were gizzard shad, a few carp, a few bass, and raggedy looking crappies.

We're a foot or so low up here on the LOTWs. Don't suppose you can send a little of the extra water up?
Looks like a mess, lots of destruction in central Kentucky.

I'm hoping at least Cave gets back in shape before the water gets too warm. I am afraid my striper fishing is over in Cumberland. It will be too warm too quick. No such thing as an average spring when it comes to this area. But maybe next year the fronts will go through on my days off instead of my work days. No tellin how good it's gonna be next spring! | |
