| I strongly considered the SX 5.3 MC for pulling 10's. I ended up going with the saltist 20 levelwind because it had a levelwind and instant anti reverse with back up pawls. The avets don't have a one way roller bearing for anti reverse which bothers me, but shouldn't affect it's usefulness. I also looked at getting an older one to save some coin, but they click when retrieving and it cannot be turned off. I'd check through the info on this site, a few guys have them and recommend them. Make sure if you order one it has the correct reel foot to fit a trigger handle rod, they come standard with too wide of a foot to fit a musky pole. |

| I just got my SX 5.3MC yesterday that I ordered off of eBay. 199.99 with free shipping. I believe Avet had a sale that was only for April but it may still be going on, it was $40 off if I remember correctly. I emailed the seller about the reel foot and he stated that the SX fit freshwater rods and he was correct, I put it on a rod and it fits. There is no clicking with this reel. It does have a clicker that can be used for trolling or live bat and turned off when not in use. This reel will win no contests for being the smoothest reel on the market but I was expecting this as it has been mentioned by others. Seems like you can really feel the gears turning in the reel. Maybe this is normal for the heavy duty reels. I'll become concerned about it when it becomes a problem. This is all I can say about the reel right now as I have not fished wit it yet. Still debating on what rod to pair it up with. Being one who reels left handed my options are limited in reel selection but so far am pleased with my choice.
I bought mine from longfintuna's tackle on eBay. He responded to my questions almost immediately and shipped the reel within an hour of paying for it. 3 days from purchase to my door step, NJ to WI. I have nothing bad to say about the seller and would buy from him again. |

| I have an Avet MXL with the magnetic controls. I beat the crap out of the reel and it has held up very well. I went with the Avet because I like to burn lures with a lefty reel and Avet makes one. Here is some general observations:
1. You can hear the bearings rolling around, but I thought that was for easier cleaning in salt water use. It is not a quiet reel.
2. I think without the level wind it casts a long ways, but a person can get more backlashes if they are not paying attention.
3. It takes some time to get use the the reel engage handle. There is four settings on mine. free, livebait, fish playing mode, and locked. A person has to manually engage the reel.
4. It is very ergo dynamic for me in that I palm the reel. I have fished for several days straight all day casting spinner baits and bucktails without my hand or wrist fatiguing. On every other reel I have ever owned that has happened.
So overall I am quite pleased and should this one ever break I will get another. I also run 80lbs suffix on the reel. |

Location: Nowhere near where I should be | I will second the guests opinion on the reel, I am also a lefty and that is why i got mine I believe the sx 's are probably to small but I understand they work well. I would also like to add that their is quite a bit of play in the handle of the 2 speed model in which I have. ande I notice yours is a single ,do you have this problem? |

| I just received my Sx 2 speed with the McCast, the first week of June. I really like mine. I thought the smaller frame would be easier to control the line lay, I have no trouble with it at all. First day on the water, it took three casts to figure out the mag setting and it no backlashes with it. UNTIL you try to throw into the wind. Then it is a NEST!! I am really happy with mine. I will go back for another one when this one is done. |

| Figure8out,
I don't seem to have that much play in the handle. Maybe the two speeds have some? I still like mine this year. I have been casting some lighter bucktails and spinnerbaits with little problem. When I do get a bad backlash on a shield lake I usually will snap a topwater on and cast out to pick the back lash which enables me to pick it without snagging rocks. (a tip for a bad backlash on shield water) |

| the sx is a good reel for double tens. The size and speed is perfect and it cranks them in much easier than standard reels. well worth the money in my opinion. I have used mine 4 times and really like it. Is it as light and comfy as my other reels - no. Does it make reeling in DCG's tolerable - yes - FINALLY:) |

Location: Madtown, WI | I too have the Avet lefty single speed. This is my second season and I like it a lot for what it is made for, speed. Some downfalls, backlashes or when the line stacks up on one side and "falls over" can lead to cutting line off (had to this weekend). Is noisy, but smooth. Built like a tank...and can haul butt on the bucktails. Not a reel for everyday use for everything, but for specific applications it works very well.
