What is the proper water (Acid) level in a battery?

Just below the plates?

Just above the Plates?

Whats the best way to check the cells to make sure they all take and hold a charge?

Thanks Guys

I always keep the water level to the edge of the slotted tube circle...not sure if I can explain it easier...Esox Maniac(AL) will hopefully answer as he is a battery knowledgable individual![:sun:]

My Interstate battery guy told me to keep the water level BETWEEN the top of the plates and the bottom of the slotted hole. If you fill to bottom of slotted hole you leave little room for gas expansion. Not a good thing![:((]
