| I was just looking on-line at the MIDNR regs....states for Muskies:
Last Saturday in April thru March 15th: lower Pen inland waters.
So the muskie season in MI is only closed for a month and a half? For spawning season obviously. I understand that correctly?
Also meaning...the musky season in MI is still closed right now? |

| The Michigan muskie season opened this past Saturday, 4/24 on Lower Peninsula waters excluding Lake St. Clair, LSC River, & Detroit River. It opens on June 5th for those waters and May 15 in the Upper Peninsula. The season does close on March 15 for the L.P. and U.P., and December 15 for LSC.

| It is only closed for a month and a half, but the lakes freeze up around december so basically it is closed for five months. |

| DOH! I forgot that this coming Saturday is May 1st already! Geeeeez. I'm a week behind. So yeah....thanks for the clarification that last Saturday was indeed the last Saturday of April.
I did realize the dates I posted were for inland lower pen MI waters only and that LSC, LSC River and Detroit River had their set of dates. |

| I'm not here to stir the pot or to start a big debate. I was just curious about Michigan's season opener date.
Only reason I asked this is this email I received below. I just hope the fish was actually caught last Saturday the 24th. If so. No worries for the angler. The season was open on that day and it was a legal length fish. Congrats to the angler on their catch! Pix that came with that email show the angler with the fish in their house. Kept fish. No way of telling the date or time of the year when the fish was caught.
I just hope it was all legit.
My brother caught this monster on Saturday on Long Lake which is in Traverse City. He was fishing for Walleye basically from shore(they were in waders) when he set the hook on what felt like a log, until it decided to move. He was using a 5 inch Perch colored Rapala on 6 pound Trilene line without a leader. To make it even better he had to drag it up on shore because they didn’t have a net! It took him over an hour to finally land this thing after almost getting spooled a couple of times and getting his line caught on a mooring buoy. It officially weighed in at 39 lbs and 51 inches. Truly a once in a life time fish!

December? I know of one that's usually open into January. Barely. And, all you have to do then, is find a lake that has "flowing water". |

Not too big of a surprise. Too bad. Happens all the time in the "north country". They take too much advantage of the the natural reproduction. |
