Got to brag on my wife and daughter

Just got back from spending 5 days on the lake and can happily report I guided my wife and little girl into their first ski's. On the 1st day out my 6 yr girl trolls up 8 pike and 1 29 inch ski , all caught on a white buchertail with a willow blade. One of the pike was a 32 incher , so my little girl is going crazy , laughing more and more with each fish she catches while Mommy is being shut out. She caught 9 , Mommy zero that day, after 4 slow days , it clouded up the last day and me and Katie ( only 6 yr old) went out trolling at 4;00 pm , we trolled 3 places with no strikes at all , not even a pike, then the big fish hit. She said Daddy " I have a big one , I can't hardly reel it." I told her to keep her line tight and keep crankin' ! She was only turning the handle in 1/2 turns , very herky-jerky like kids do. I could tell by the pumping of her rod that it was a muskie , I just did'nt know how big. Then I saw her line raising and knew the fish was coming up to jump . Sure enough , it went air born and I saw my little girl had a upper 40 in class , maybe 50 , on the end of her line , (she was pretty calm , Not me) It was not until the fish was boatside and did some power dives that she handed me the rod, I was praying the fish would'nt pop off. It pulled some drag before I headed her back towards the boat and scopped her up in the coated beckman . It measured 48 inches !!! I've fished 16-18 years and that tied my personal best. She did'nt want to troll any longer , just go back to camp and share the good news, so I took her back , and took Mommy out trolling in front of our camp and Mommy nails a very fat 41 incher for her 1st muskie , on a black buchertail. So the last day was a big thrill. My little girl was soooooo proud ! So was I take care ManitouDan[:halo:]

Dan, that's awesome. My middle son who is 6 caught his first musky in june and my oldest son who is 8 lost one boatside. I was able to get my mom her first musky two weeks ago as well.

What a special time with the family. As you now know you feel better when they catch the fish than you would catching the same muskies! What memories!![]

Fantastic, Dan. I noticed you did not mention which lake. Oh well. Any more thoughts on joining us at Cass Lake next month? m

Mikie-- My brother owns a camp at the northern end of the lower manitou , which was the lake I was fishing. I fish cave run some here in ky when I can , but my heart lies in the canadian wilderness !!! Both fish were released -- I'm considering a replica of my daughter's however. I'm not much a troller at all but considering my wife and kids cant cast a abu 650 or any open face reel I appreciate trolling being legal in canada . I read alot of negative post about trolling (esp from those in wis. where there are lots of small lakes) but on large bodies of water I don't see why trolling should not be legal. Just something to think about. Don't get my wrong -- small lakes should be left alone, no trolling-- I fished clearfork 3 years ago and could not believe the number of pontoon boats with rod holders dragging baits behind. I think I was the only caster on the lake. As for next month -- I doubt it , would LOVE to go, but vacation time left this year is tight. One of these days-- I've got to quit using 3 weeks a year on the manitou [] Take Care ManitouDan

Hey, Dan, ya gotta go where the fish are and it sounds like you found them. What a wonderful thing to get more ladies involved in this sport! Your girl will always remember that fish and the fun time she had with her folks. We need to hook up sonetime, I'm over in Athens and now that the heat wave is ending (I hope!) I may be able to get out some more. m[]

Dan:
Congrats on your wife and daughter's skis. Don't blame you for bragging...[:0] [:p] []

I saw your post regarding fishing Clearfork, sad to hear about all the pontoon boats dragging baits...[:blackeye:]
I lived in Lexinton back in the late sixties/early seventies and fished Clearfork very regularly (like every day) and I doubt there were more than a half-dozen of us avid musky hounds there back then, and we all cast 99% of the time. My oldest son caught his first musky on Clearfork when he was 5-1/2. One of my favorite pictures is he and I in our old homemade boat holding his first ski just prior to it's release...[;)]
My younger son still lives in the area and musky fishes Clearfork. Your posts of your daughter's first ski and mentioning Clearfork brought back many fond memories for me... [:praise:]

tight lines to you and may each one be larger than your last,
