what does everyone prefer for say double cowgirls, super model, 10 to 14 inch jakes etc. i have been looking at the tackle industries rods and the mag heavy 3 to 12 oz and the maga heavy 8 to 36 oz. your average big bucktail is maybe 3 to 5 oz. is the maga heavy to stiff for baits like these? just wondering what everyone has to say. thanks and happy musky hunting

I have the Mag Heavy XH Tackle Industries rods and it can throw Double Cowgirls and Super Models all day long with no issues whatsoever.

I have the Mag Heavy 9 footer, and I'm able to toss doubles and big Jakes all day with no problem. Def recommend it.

For speeding in doubles tens I am running a left handed Avet MXL with 80lbs suffix on the 9 foot XH and really like it. I tried the XXH in a 9 foot but my cast distance was shorter and I had more backlashes.

For big Rubber I last year I ran the XXH 9 foot with a Tekota 600. I think this year I am going to try a Saltist and possibly a Revo.

The rod I used on the Sturgeon was an early model XXH in the 9 foot. Between the fish and some snags and logs, I thought the rod held up excellent. I also like the feel and the weight of the rod.

Hope that helps.

I bought a 9'3" Okuma at the musky show. Been using it even for glidebaits. I set it down and rigged up my 8'er and it felt like a 6' pool que to me. I do not think I will fish with anything less, i already want a 10' rod!

For reels it depends on what you are using it for. Picking up slack, a higher speed reel. Double tens a slower reel(penn 975, 7000, revo winch) unless you are using a slaltwater reel like the saltist, trinidad, ect.

I've got a Revo Toro on it... palms perfectly and a very comfortable rig to throw blades all day long.
