I have a 690vs with a Merc 175 efi. I am running a Tempest 21p prop. wot rpm's are right at the top limit. Top speed with boat fully loaded is 53 mph. Would like to get a little more out of the hole shot. It's a little on the sluggish side when boat is fully loaded with gas and 2 guys with muskie gear. I am willing to loose a little top end. Anybody running a 4 blade or any other type of prop?

just got a 94 690 with a 175 merc efi xr6 and it's got a high-five prop on it. i'm impressed with both the hole-shot and the moderate and trimmed out performance. i haven't looked at the top-end rpm's but i'm running at least 53 loaded with fuel and a couple people in it. let me know what you want to find out and i'll try to help you ... or if you're ever in minocqua we could compare notes in the boat.

We have a '95 690vs with 150 merc efi. With trophy prop it was sluggish on hole shot but okay top end. With high 5 hole shot is fantastic and top end is 51-52 gps speed

How is the prop vented? Is it sluggish because the rpms are slow to build up or is it slow because the rpms shoot up and the boat takes a long time to catch up to the rpms?

If the rpms come up slowly just remove some of the plugs and see what happens. You need some venting to max out your holeshot.

If the rpms are screamin' and you're not on takeoff, just plug up some of the vent holes to get some bite.

I'd leave the pitch alone if you are on the high end of the rpm range they specify.

I got a 98 690 175 Optimax with a 21 pitch 3 blade Tempest Plus, i get 57 gps at about 5700 rpm. Great holeshot, 1 vent unplugged, but porposes more at lower speeds, hard to keep on plane under 30 mph.I also have a 23 Pitch 4 blade Trophy, terrible hole shot, and a little less top end speeed this prop does not have vents, thus the terrible holeshot, but helps with porposing at lower speeds. I always wanted to send to Mark Croxten to get the prop vented. Sled, i live in Tomahawk and always wanted to try the High Five, maybe we can hook up sometime on Minoqua to try each others props. Heard the High Five was the way to go on 690's to prevent porposing at lower speeds.

yah, give me a shout anytime 715.493.7848 if you want to get out on the water and play around. mine is the older square-back 94 with an xr6 efi, but there should be similarities ...

Sounds good Jon. I will write your # down. I think i have met you before on league night a few years ago, it was the same night you got the big one on Boom, we were right around the corner from you and could hear you yelling. I will call you after the opener and we can meet somewhere. Thanks, my cell # is 612-0043

Jim, try pulling out 1 vent, because you shoud have a great hole shot with that prop. See my post above.

I have a 1998 ranger 690vs with a 175merc efi. It has a DAH 23p four blade prop,
this motor tops at 62mph 5900rpm.This speed is GPS on a Lowrance lcx 27. I have no problems out of the hole, even loaded. I would suggest checking one of these props out.
