We were getting boats ready to rock this weekend and I was looking at the old hook cutters. We had the cheaper versions in each of our boats. They are junk now! I want to replace all with Knipex cutters. Been on line looking and all I'm finding is a 8" cutter. Anyone know do they make a 12" and any thoughts on the best place to buy these as I need to get three of them. thanks, Jake

hi Jake,

the 8 inch cutters will cut 7/0 4x strong hooks just fine and with very little work to do so. I don't believe they make a 12 inch version..the next step up would be a 2-handed version...

If you want a 12 (which youshould never need anyway) I would call 7 corners hardware in StPaul. They handle the highend and obscure tools.

Just ordered mine from Sears because I had a gift card - otherwise very expensive.
Ryan Cotter has about the best link - I've never seen them that cheap!

Price is cheap at crawford tool, but MTO is a couple buck cheaper after you factor in shipping (assuming you order over $75 with MTO and get their free shipping).

I am after the one's with the heavy wire notch. If I need to cut a 10/0 quick that'll do it.

Just got my Knipex in the mail yesterday and I've got to say - if you don't have a Knipex, you need one. I cut a hook point with my old side cutters, then another with the knipex and oh my god. Now I know why you guys have been saying the knipex are so good. I could not be happier.

We still carry a cheap set of small bolt cutters in the boat just in case. All of the hook cutting duties have been done with the Knipex, these things are amazing.
