Over here (netherlands) almost everybody uses titanium leaders.
I seem to read nothing about them on this forums..
So my question is do you guys use them? And if not why not? It seems like a good kink proof material.

Thanks,

Marcel

I used a lot of titanium leaders in the past. I have a titanium leader on my 7'2" rod right now as it is my back-up /general purpose / let a friend borrow rod. I still carry a few titanium leaders with me all the time. I made the switch to fluorocarbon a few years ago and now make my own.

I actually asked the questions once in another tread about a month or so ago... the concensus was that not a lot of people use them (or trust them). Seems like a lot of inconsistency when building the leader and a lot of broken leaders as a result of it.

Titanium is very brittle when bent too far or crimped. I used them years ago and every one failed (luckily not with fish). They were the hot thing in the late 90's early 2000's and most everyone that was using them had failures which is why very few are running them now. I suggest that you used pretty much any other leader material out there.

I used to use Terminator titanium leaders almost exclusively, loved them for years. Then, two summers ago I set the hook on a mid to upper-40's fish I watched t-bone a spinner-bait and the leader snapped where the snap contacts the titanium. That began a season where between a buddy and myself we had 4 or 5 titanium leaders snap or simply fall apart. Wrote the first one off as a fluke/old leader, but quit using them after watching that many fail.

I also have broken many titanium leaders in my life. No way would I ever put on again. Stupid me that I kept on "trusting" them....lost a lot of baits with these leaders. No good in my opinion.

agreed, titanium leaders can't stand up to musky baits plain and simple...

There is too much stress and pressure with those leaders and no matter what kind, they will all break eventually.
